That's all for now, so yeah. There's more, but it's artists' comments on some of the art - this is what I really wanted to show you all.

Thanks OP, good read.

Did they mention every voice actor except Nakata Jouji? Or did I skim over his name somewhere?

Does anybody know whether or not they're going to release the KnK box in europe? I'd rather not import it because its going to be expensive as shit.

I'll be getting this in a few days myself. No, I'm not gonna rip it after paying ~$400 for it.

>> No.6935783

>>6935776
They actually don't look that bad, OP here. The only problem is that they used that terrible Q-tec style vectoring on the CHARACTERS, not the backgrounds, and thus the lineart looks a little weird

They should have included the soundtrack CDs like was with the limited versions of the Japanese DVDs. Also lol at the $50 per disc Japanese pricing. Guess they don't expect to move that many of these in English speaking countries, subtitles or not..

I bet they can count their sales on two hands

>> No.6935860

>>6935849
Seeing as it is "no longer available for purchase" already that's probably an accurate count as to just how many they made. Usually I want the hell out of limited things like that but I think my brain is shocked by the price tag. Seriously, Blu-Rays over here are more of a $20 thing, or maybe $100 for a big box set. Not $400.

Okay, I'll admit I still want the book because I'm an animator. Storyboards, layouts, shit like that is what I like. It looks decently sized so maybe $30 or thereabouts for "American" pricing.

OP here, I'm majoring in animation at my university under a few professional animators. Been at it for about a year, learning is fun, but it's hard as fuck sometimes!

Anyway, yeah. This gives you a good idea of the book.

That translated interview that I just posted is also inside this, untranslated.

2D or 3D? God, I suck at 2D. Can't draw sequentially to save my life.

Thanks for the photos. Makes me want the book less but that just means I have an excuse to buy all the storyboard books...

>> No.6935903

>>6935899
2D primarily, but I'm also learning 3d animation.

2D isn't hard, actually. It's more about the sheer amount of tedium, for me. If you're not SUPER PASSIONATE about what you're animating it becomes the most boring thing in the world to animate in 2D.

>> No.6935907

>>6935903
My draftsmanship is horrible. If you were to have me draw six frames whatever I was drawing would change in size and line weight six times and not on purpose. 3D does all the tweening for me but instead I have to deal with getting the rig to do what I want.

>> No.6935917

>>6935907
OP again, the main thing I'm always told, as an animator, is that to be a truly good 3D animator you must have training in the classic 2D techniques. One can look at all the people in 3D animation classes these days, but they're not being taught the most basic skills required to be a proper animator - squash and stretch, even. Arcs of motion, all that kind of stuff - even the concept of less frames and more frames to indicate slowing down and speeding up, and extreme distortion not normally visible by the human eye but 'perceived' and thus the audience is tricked by an illusion of animation. Sometimes you even see this in anime when some guy stops it and declares a frame is QUALITY - in fact, you're not even supposed to realize that frame's there, it's only for the 'effect' of movement.

Et cetera, et cetera.

>> No.6935931

>>6935917
You'll just have to trust me in that my lines in 2D were horrible.

We had the 12 principles hammered into us during school. Also a lot of stuff like the Animator's Survival Kit and other books based in 2D.

Well, that's good then. Glad to hear you're not being herded down the wrong path by some upstart animation teacher.

The teachers themselves at the school are pretty good. Current and ex-industry in every department. The administration is another thing. Somewhere in their minds they thought a sports program was the way to go. Art school with not-so-good sports teams.

Part of me wishes I was still in, part of me is glad I'm out and working. I miss the free workshops that I no longer have time for.

Just bought 5 of the Kara no Kyoukai storyboard books for about $56. Need to pick up 6 and 7 off of amazon.jp or somewhere else. 7 is a whopping 686 pages.

Reassuring to know that TM doesn't release anything exactly becuse they don't want to be too commercial. I've been thinking for a while now that they aren't milking the cow nearly as they could if they only wanted. See 07th Expansion for reference on fail at this.

DDD, followed Kara no Kyoukai, UBW movie, rewrote pretty much the entire Fate/Extra because it was shit (and yeah, one can argue whether it was really worth it), rewrote Mahoyoru (according to his blog, the delay is due to the system being redone, not the script)
