Some argue that Miyazaki's remake of 'The Birds' has strayed too far from the original.

Japanese birds spitshining shoes.

I've been thinking about getting a bird as a pet. What bird has the highest level of intelligence? I've heard of a species that is smarter than apes here yesterday.

I've heard that either crows or ravens are the most intelligent birds, but they are hard to 'domesticate' in the traditional way.

African grays are the smartest.

They have been known to have the intelligence of a 5 year old human.

European/eurasian magpies. They're one of the very few animals, and the only bird, that passes the mirror test (recognizes itself in a mirror, instead of thinking it's another magpie trapped behind glass). According to Science!, this means they're sentient creatures. There's only a couple animals that can do the same.

The mirror test is bullshit, because it assumes all animals use sight as their primary means of identifying other individuals. Also, you mean self-awareness, not sentience. All animals are sentient.
It is true though, that members of the crow family (which includes magpies) tend to be pretty smart. Some of them can even make and use tools.

are you actually saying those dogs circling my home are sentient?

they've been circling my home for weeks. starting with a duo, now they've increased to half a dozen, circling, howling and barking in the middle of the nights.

i tried scaring them by pointing a torchlight at their faces, but they look even scarier with those reflective pupils staring back at me.

i started dreaming about dogs, more often than ever since they started circling my home. help?

Sorry, but that's the truth. Plain and simple.

I'd be more scared if they weren't sentient and still managed to circle your home.

The fact that they've perceived your home (or something near it), judged it to be something that needs to be circled and acted on that judgement already shows that they're sentient.
Personally, I recommend to stop wearing underwear made out of bacon.
