i was thinking about this the other day and figured it out
9/11 is what happened

remember when you used to go to newgrounds?
everything was pretty cool
sure that orange clock faggot would piss you off sometimes, but it was fine
then 9/11 happened
then all the top 100 flashes were about killing bin laden
it was scarcely funny the first time, but it wasn't funny when there were a billion different flashes about it

9/11 happened
and the people that talked about 9/11 are what ruined the internet

At the risk of sounding like some kind of hipster...

It became mainstream. It became socially acceptable for normal people to hang out on it. And predictably it went to shit soon afterwards.

>> No.6875603

Things turned bad after the year 2000 I think. I blame the home broadband revolution. It may have been on dial up, you might not have been able to download a large file without the connection being dropped, and the browsers available were utterly terrible, but I have to say the 90s internet was great. Well, it was pretty shitty all in all actually, but it wasn't nearly as terrible as it is today.
Given how much oldfags say the internet turned to shit in endless September, I can only imagine how great things were before then.

>> No.6875609

Pretentious 20 year old detected.

The internet was already becoming shitty during those years, 1994-1998 those were the days, only intelligent people had access to the internet, it was glorious.

There are still very many chans that I don't normals even know exist, I mean just go on that over chan and you can see a ton of them. There is also probably a lot that are not even listed there. Compared to the rest of the mainstream internet this place on 4chan seems to be a lot better than all the other boards because we have the least amount of normals shitting it up. I mean if your new to 4chan altogether you will be accepted here as long as you aren't a normal. This is still a pretty good place even though we have our spam attacks on it every so often.

You didn't have to be intelligent to use a GUI to access the internet (or even Lynx).

The frontier era/pre-commerical Internet was amazing, though. Wish my parents had listened to me and bought that Yahoo, Amazon, Ebay, AOL stock...

You were 13 at somepoint, even 15/16.

I remember 6-7 years ago I saved a bunch a funny macros with cats on them, named all my files epic something or other, had lots of generic "Cute anime girl 156623" loved playing them hardcore dating sims on newgrounds, etc.

It's just that today's youth has an evolved 4chan to be a retard in. All kids are retarded, deal with it. Around 20 they realize how fucking retarded they are and grow out of it. Or post on /cgl/, which is literally grown up children who touch themselves to pokemon who act like the biggest attention whores you have ever seen outside of /soc/

Granted, a lot of those jokes and memes were later taken into the mainstream and beaten to death, but still.
