Is the music in Higurashi really this bad or am I just spoiled rotten by Umineko? I'm struggling thru the 1st few arcs and its hard to stay focused with the short, generic loops of music. Does it improve later in the series with the answer arcs or does it stay the same throughout?

Some anon put together a few music patches adding some of the ps2 music back into higurashi.

MG pretty much sucks - and I say this because they alter a lot more than translations in their stuff. Jap Higurashi had some variety, not a lot - but some. MG took it out.

Google it, it's a wikia page - also has some graphical patches I'd recommend that change sprites/backgrounds to PS2 versions. They are very much superior.

If you're playing with shitty MangaGamer music then yeah, it's going to suck. The music they use isn't terrible but there are so few tracks they tend to get annoying pretty fast.

I don't understand why people dislike the original question arc soundtrack so much though. I personally thought it was pretty good for being a bunch of random tracks amassed from the internet. I actually found that I started to miss them once I started going through the answer arcs. Would be nice if there wasn't so much clipping in them, though, since it's most prevalent in some of the best tracks.

They have a unique charm to them. Objectively, the PS2 sprites are better drawn, but personally I prefer the PC spites. I don't think Higurashi would be the same without them, to be honest.

Excuse for lame art. It was badly draw, period. The PS2 art can be generic, but it doesn't make the original art better nor "drawn with the heart". Accept it is bad and like it for it, but don't try to make up excuses to pretend it is good or better than the PS2 art.

I agree I was struck with the lower quality og higurashi music. But it has some really mood-setting tunes. Like 9.mp3 pretty much set the whole mood of Onikakushi-hen for me. Reaaaaallly depressing. It's still worth it, but I agree, nothing compares the the god-tier, life altering music of Umineko.
