Just had a Japanese student of mine use in Visual Kei in an English I was teaching.

For what it's worth.

I think I'm going to go to my room and listen to some MALICE MIZER

(Actually, do it, it's pretty fun. Especially when people have the face to abort the fucking Gackt.)

I can tell you one thing. Whoever they are and whatever is happening, I don't think they should be teaching english.

Didn't it die off by the end of the '90s? I assume weeaboos gave it a second lease of life, just enough to tide it over till mid 2000s but I think even in the West it's no longer the hot shit.

I'm sorry but this was the most hilarious thing I read all day.

That "For what it's worth" just seals it.

V-kei and "host" started crossing over a couple of years ago to the point where now they are pretty much the same thing (lets face it, they sell the same product, basically, just with or without guitars involved).

Likewise gothloli has been dying out, the various gothloli mags sales are declining, and instead the gothloli style has been subsumed into gyaru and mainstream fashion and j-pop.

So now if you go to shinjuku you can see hosts with hair exactly like OPs picture wearing H-Naoto clothes on their day off, and Gyaru with "hime" hair, panier skirts and Dir-en-grey phone straps next to their disney ones.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs actually and I'm just waiting for it all to die off completely.

(cont) I should add, I'm painting with a pretty broad brush, please take it as a general cultural observation and don't get all butthurt.

>90% of the comments are from weeaboos

Yep, it's dead.

>> No.6849633

No, it is not. The only decent bands in the genre have broken up (Malice Mizer, Phantasmagoria, Due le Quartz) or mutated into just plain old J-Rock (Dir en grey, Alice Nine). There's a ton of also-rans that really just rely on their ability to effectively crossdress.

That said, I still dig Dir en grey. Those guys always kinda transcended the genre in terms of style anyway. Good music is just good music. It doesn't have to curry niche popularity with me.

I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but I know enough about it to name like... ten bands or something small from other people that are to come to the conclusion that any major fans of it are fucking bipolar or have a snooty attitude about it. I can't recognize anyone's faces, save for like... one band.

i.e.
>Drawing 101 class. We have midterm assignments that involve drawing the rest of a cropped photo
>Girl has an unfinished photo and it's V-Kei
>Walk up after class and ask her what band he's from
>"Oh, you wouldn't know."
>"What band is he from?"
>"You wouldn't know."
>"It's visual Kei, you wouldn't know."
>"What band."
>"His name is Satsuki"
>"What band."
>"Rentrer en Soi"
>"right. I've totally never heard of them."
mfw i already on my iPod since a million years ago

Beforehand
>Teacher: "Oh, I have an art show in a couple of months in some fucking town near LA or whatever"
>Girl: "There's a maid cafe there!"
>Class: "What???"
>Me: It's like the Japanese version oh Hooters.
>Teachers: Really?
>Me: Like... French maids and calling you master and stuff.
>Teacher: Oh, creepy.

Then she goes on to tell me later that it's pretty much all she's into, like spending nearly 5k on CDs. The fuck?

Also, the girl was crazy obsessed with our art teacher to the point that people in the class thought it was creepy.

The other girl who tells me all of this VK stuff and gets me to listen to it is kinda flippant, emotionally. One mood one minute and another the next. In all, she's really nice though.

Nobody fucking cares about VK since people stopped caring about KISS. And the fact their concerts are always empty when Slayer come to town as well.

Shit's dead. Move the fuck on.
