New stg thread since the old one got deleted for some reason.

Try not to "Touhou it up" in here, thanks.

>> No.6781427

Like 99% of /jp/ plays STGs besides Touhou. I don't know why there is a thread every hour "Why don't you idiots play *some arcade shmup from the 90s that everyone has played*????"

Regardless of that I just got Mushifutari and I need to look up how arrange mode works since I'm confused. Nice tate'd otherwise.

I think you are severely overestimating the amount of people who play non-Touhou games on /jp/.

Regardless, the point is that every other thread on /jp/ is about Touhou. This thread can be dedicated to other games.

I spent like two hours yesterday getting the "Dare Devil" achievement on the Xbox 360 version of R-Type, where you have to beat stages 1 & 2 without getting any power ups and using only turbo shot. Shit was driving me nuts.

I kind of wish they'd give us a little more insight into the R-Type universe, as well. I admit I haven't played the Tactics games (they seem a little short on depth) but the Bydo are a pretty terrifying enemy, as are the lengths humanity goes to to defeat them. There was some blurb from some obscure material that said the Warhead's pilot had had their limbs and nonessential organs removed in order to survive piloting in hazardous environments.

It makes a tad bit more sense for the Rag (the silly shit, I mean), though I remember randomly concluding that the R-90 has a lot of bydo-based components...

...helps to explain why the ship is so damned broken. I think the R-series in general feature some bydo elements within the ship designs (and not just in the force and bit devices), but the Ragnarok and other later models start to feature more bydo-derived tech compared to the early stuff...

Though that's probably me speculating details. Biotechnology does show up for the B-series craft, though...

Ikeda did the futari scoring didn't he? That is one of Cave's best.

Ikeda bullet patterns + Ichimura scoring = the best shooting game possible

What latest games?

Deathsmiles 2 is good. It looks like shit, but it has good patterns and fun scoring.

Akai Katana I have not played but it looks good for a current Cave game (meaning it's easy to clear, but hard to score). Great graphics, art, and music too.

And Daifukkatsu is good. It's no Dai Ou Jou, but it's still a damn fun game. And the scoring is better than all of the previous Donpachis.

Ikeda just needs to make another original game. He's said he hates sequels, but that's all he's been making for the last five years. He's probably being forced into it by his superiors.

I read that too but after seeing what stage 5 was like there really was no reason it couldn't have been ported to the PS2. They can't tell me their programmers are to stupid to switch out the background on a PS2, I refuse to believe this.

>> No.6783918

>>6783684
I know that's the part in question but I seriously can't believe it would have been impossible to do.
The reason they gave was due to the lack of RAM. I don't know how much RAM the PGM that ran Ketsui had but considering it only has a 20MHz CPU (the PS2 DESTROYS PGM in this regard with just the 300MHz main CPU) it couldn't have been much more than the 32MB the PS2 has if even that. That aside, 32MB is plenty for a low resolution 2D game and even if the background wouldn't fit entirely in RAM there is enough breathing room that it could have been just loaded seamlessly on the fly as the stage progresses.

I've got a question relating to Mame Shmups Special v4 at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=zr92jkue

I'm using it after a week of playing DDP DOJ Black Label on version 2, and my question relates to the rank listed on the title screen. In v4 it says Rank: Easy, but in my rom on v2 it says Rank: Normal as well as C Button: Full Auto.

My question is, what does all this mean, and if it's important, how do I change it?

I usually only play to one credit anyway, but just out of curiosity, is there a way to shut off the limit on continuing in most of these games?

It's personal preference. No one should be retarded enough to think they must force their ideals down everyone's throats to justify their actions.

It's really simple: If you don't think a game is worth it, don't buy it.

XBLA?
You can buy a game at $10, no problem. You get it at a low price because the supply/demand and distribution element is pretty much absent, and all that's required is the establishing of a baseline price. Downside is that you're limited to what's cleared through by MS.

But physical copies?

Well, ever wondered why Radiant Silvergun is so damn expensive?

Low supply, high demand, typical free market rape in effect.

But the thing is, any sane person would weigh in their purchases, rather than hastily going "I GOT THE MONEY! BUYBUYBUY!"

But really, can we just talk about shmups, not shmup acquisition methods?
