For me its TOAPLAN's Batsugun back in 2007 I had just discovered the Saturn swap trick, and I was just randomly downloading games and burning to disc, I just happened to have stumbled upon Batsugun, I fell instantly in love with it, not to mention that badass Iceman. GOOOD LUCKKK.

Oh and still to this day its one of my favorite shooters and the best TOAPLAN game in my opinion.

Raiden. Played the hell out of the machine at the liquor store down the street when I was a kid.

Touhou, for real. I never cared about STGs before.

I can't remember, but Touhou is what I played before moving onto better STGs.

I guess Touhou. I played others, and still play others occasionally, but I play Touhou the most.

Thunder Force III for the Genesis. Played it more times than I can count. It wasn't until much later that I started to play top scroller shooters and danmaku ones.

How do you make a shooter with gameplay that isn't isolated from story?

I just remembered, I played one of the raidens in an arcade, but I don't like raiden so that probably wasn't it.

Motherfucking TwinBee for a pirate Famicom I had.

Also B-Wings.

>> No.6750191

Salamander/Life Force was my favorite when I was a small babby. Probably beat it like 30 times. Perhaps I was atutismic when I was younger.

Then for each new system I would always play the shooting games first.

>> No.6750207

Ikaruga. Read about it in some shitty Gamecube magazine when I was 15 or something. Intrigued by how apparently difficult it is. Didn't believe. Played. Believed. Played more STGs. Realised Ikaruga is relatively easy but still good. The end.

Theoretically....World of Warcraft started everything (saw WoW video with Baldr Force EXE's OP, saw a few gameplay videos of Baldr Force, saw a game in a shop that looked similar to Baldr Force and bought it, fucking loved Senko no Ronde, gave Touhou 11 a chance, fucking loved Touhou 11.

...Senko no Ronde.

More like the only one right? I live in Brazil, and while I was on a trip to London I specifically wanted to visit that place. You see our arcades here are pretty shitty, mostly old machines and while they do have an occasional gem there are no shumps what so ever, so I wanted to see the stuff you guys had overseas, and play some motherfucking DjMax Technika. While I was impressed by the place I was also disappointed, no shumps in sight besides 2 lone machines (from what I recall), both had 1943.

Seems like the only place I'll find shumps again is Japan.

Also 2 fucking £ per play, what the fuck is wrong with UK

Buncha stuff I had on the Amiga to begin with (being a eurofag). SWIV and Apidya were some good shit. Then it was PS shooters like G Darius and R Type Delta.

When I got emulating Neogeo stuff I found Blazing Star and found its combo systems and scoring elements interesting and thought there was totally more to the genre than I thought. Been a fan ever since.

My favourites lately have to be the Gradius series. I dismissed it as just too hard originally but it's all about staying the heck alive, managing your powerups and extends, and fucking annoying enviromental hazards. Argh.

...Silver surfer on the nes... then star force... them vidya actually turned me down alot on shooters.

However I discovered that game which I don't recall the name but you could play as a dolphin pilot and it launched my interest in shooters.

>> No.6752090

Space Invaders and Galaga is the first thing that comes to mind. I love my dad for introducing these to me back then.

>>6750194
Holy shit, I remember those games. Pretty fun. And I also find it amusing that I'm not the only one in /jp/ who had one of those fake famicoms.

>> No.6752842

It was easily Galaga for me. For whatever reason, laundromats seem to always have Galaga and Ms. Pacman cabnets and my folks didn't have washer and dryer growing up. Later on I played TwinBee and Gradius, but with the lack of interest in the genre in the west, I didn't really even get to try those until I got a PC and emulators. I'd say my interest didn't really take off until playing Touhou, though.
