Haven't played it, because I'm a purist who prefers console shooters to be on a console. My loss, I know. I'm too poor to afford it.

Gameplay itself wasn't as strong as I COULDV'E been, but the massive variety of ships and bits meant there was a FUCKTON of replay value. I still haven't unlocked every ship, and I've had the game for years.

I'm guessing emulation's out of the question?

I've been able to get the SSF Saturn emulator running, and it manages to hold together pretty well in that emulator, though with a bit of slowdown and the voicework magically disappearing.

It's still a damn fun game, and complements Ikaruga's minimalism pretty well...

Hard copy RadSil/Ika compilation set when, Treasure?
You've ported both games to XBL (or still working on porting RadSil, fuck I've been out of the loop...), there's nothing keeping you from whoring yourselves out just a little bit more...

I've got a perfectly good fully tricked out Japanese Saturn that already doesn't get enough love as-is. Emulating Saturn games would be like cheating on my wife.

>> No.6642389

Final is not that good. Lots of slowdown, and the unlocking the 6000 ships is tedious. Also, no real music, only ambient stuff, which I hate

Replay is awesome, especially for shooters.

I still want to finish Delta up, though. Managed to finally get through the second stage, only to find out that stage 3 is just one long troll session.

Speaking of TONS OF REPLAY, I regret resetting Space Invaders Infinity Gene on my iPod. You'll start to appreciate unlocking 4 revisions worth of content once you've gone from "grinding to get it all" to "OH FUCK WHY DOES THIS GAME HAVE SO MANY UNLOCKABLES GOD DAMN."

Bonus stages everywhere!

>>6642377
Oh...
...Good luck then.

YOU SHOULD PLAY THUNDERFORCE V.
IT'S AWESOME.

There was a nice batch of awesome pseudo-3D/2,5D shooters during the Saturn/Playstation years... so many of then had relatively lackluster followups, though...

A shame too.
I'll never see a Thunder Force 7.
Feels bad...

Einhander on the PS was cool.

Fantastic Saturn/PS Shmup - Darius gaiden

MOTHERFUCKING G-DARIUS. PLAY IT. LOVE IT. LIVE IT.

I played Burst before heavily checking out Gaiden and G.

Probably the smartest thing I've ever done.

Burst is a pretty fun game, but that's pretty much true for almost every other entry as well...

Gaiden is what happens when you serious the fuck up when making games.

G?

THE MOST INSANE DARIUS GAME EVER MADE.

Those two will completely spoil your expectations for Darius games, because honestly the rest of the franchise was fun yet nothing exceptional.

That feel of absorbing boss beta beam with your Alpha, leading to ultimate destruction. My god, me and my old roommate woke up the whole damn neighborhood the first time we pulled that off 2P.
PSP burst interests me, but not as much as the Arcade machine. Pic very related.

Darius Arcade multi-monitor machines are what makes Darius in the arcade vastly superior to home versions. Even the comparatively ho-hum first two darius games are made awesome by being able to both see and shoot two screens ahead.

True...

4 player madness. Now all we need to do is port back to the PSP and/or home consoles, and run rampant over netplay or something.

Burst was a pretty good game. Nothing too outstanding, but I'll have fond memories of clearing the game.

Burst mode, ending on Zone H. Barely manage to not get raped during the final stretch, stage bgm is "World of Spirit," and HOLY SHIT DAT MUSIC when you reach the boss. The entire stage's bgm is just World of Spirit, and it kicks right into an epic bit during the boss fight.

Some people think that Zuntata's work in that game was relatively lackluster....

Seriously, people underestimate the sort of impact that you can get when you have synergy between the game and the music. It was beautiful.

And then of course you deplete your ARMor, and hit some random fish head on, but IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

Too bad I'll never understand what the fuck is happening in the endings...

The fact that you can play PSX games on the PSP (easier once hacked, of course) makes the device pretty much god tier for on the go STG playing, by the way...

What really baffles me is how they made the normal shot totally useless. What were they thinking?
