OK, let's try to save this one for a change.

This thread is now officially about how you behave while playing Touhou.

Many complain that they forget to blink and their eyes start to "burn" from time to time. That's usually a problem for me, the flashy patterns and excessive concentration hurt my eyes and I'm sure that affects my gameplay.

Also, pausing and taking a short break between levels is usually good for you. some prefer to just keep going without stopping to not lose their rhythm though

I sometimes start playing while wearing a hat, and then half way through the hat bothers me so I pause at a terrible time, remove it start again and usually die. Terrible habit.

How I normally though is dressed up properly like I'm going on a date. Nice clothes on, cleaned up and smelling nice. This way after going at Touhou for hours on end, I get all sweaty and smelly and that turns me on.

My eyes do start burning. Even worse because I wear contacts and they start drying out too. There have been times where I had to pause and go moisten them again.

My hands also sweat a lot.

I don't play Touhou, I just read the doujins.

Almost every time I die I say "shit!" and get angry for a few seconds only to forget about it moments later as I try to concentrate on not fucking up again. The farther I'm in the angrier I sound.

Is it possible to put the corrective lens on the computer screen instead of on your eyes somehow?

>> No.6596365

>>6596359
Touhou is one of the few games I never really get angry at. No time to as you'll fuck up again if you dwell on it. Not like FPS's where I just rage the fuck out. That's why I completely stopped playing them.

I play for a while and then the danmaku becomes ingrained within my mind for a few minutes after I stop. The bullets make it a bit tough to concentrate so I rest for a bit.

>> No.6596385

I go "ARRGH" and "DAMNIT" when I make stupid mistakes.
Especially when I glide into bullets I know are there but run into them anyway.

QC trying to help a bad thread? Did something good happen today? You should do this more often.

Anyway, I actually do very well after I take long breaks between Touhou and regardless of my rhythm. During my first play-through of SA normal, when I got to Okuu I literally spent all day trying to defeat her using over 100 continues, and just couldn't manage it. The next day after I woke up, after just three attempts I won.

As for the burning eyes and the blinking problem; it's always good to play in a well lit room, at a decent distance from the screen, and take short breaks naturally. When I used to spend 6+ hours a day doing pipe drafting plans for school, I HAD to take small breaks away from the computer and wash my face or my eyes would literally make it impossible for me to continue working.

I find I do easily twice as well if I have a cup of Earl Grey to my left and take a drink before and after each boss.

That happens more often than you might think actually.

Like I already said, I too take breaks and just like your example with Okuu I spent a whole day trying to 1cc SA without stopping and failed miserably. I took two weeks break from that game and then tried again, managing to 1cc it within 2 hours.

I remember some people saying that recording patterns is the best way to clear the game or capture spell cards, that's certainly true but it's not something I do. I just can't bring myself to watch videos or replays and simply record some positions and copy what they did, I'm more of a guy that moves according to the situation given.

How many of you are like that too? I see several people in the recording side from the threads we have here. That makes the game pretty boring in my opinion.

I can't play Touhou without my Vyvanse (Amphetamines) to put me into hyper-drive. I am simply too slow to react to immediate danger and I constantly fail at death bombing.

Not entirely sure what you mean by recording, but I generally try to refrain from watching replays of a given boss before I take them down myself.

I gotta say, I sat there laughing for a good fifteen seconds when I got to Youkai Polygraph and had absolutely no idea what was going on and immediately died twice in a row.

>> No.6596458

>>6596437
Oh that's something that happens a lot to me. Or it used to at least since I remember most patterns now.

When you face a pattern you never had before and the only thing you can think it's "Jesus christ what the fuck", I always started to laugh as I tried to survive moving around blindly and wasting all bombs.

I don't know about amphetamines but two to three cups of coffee (slight buzz but not yet shaky) give me what feels like super-human reaction and finger dexterity for a few hours. Almost all of my high scores were created in this state.
