There's no such thing as a "lunar rabbit;" the "species" Lunarians refer to as such are actually, from a biological point of view, Lunarians. Lunarians possess an empathic telekinetic ability triggered by synesthesia, most commonly through eye contact. Those deemed to be of insufficient class to communicate in this manner have their synesthesia-based psychic abilities disabled by two metal spikes driven into the brain of the subject; frequently, the legal owner of one undergoing this subject will have approximations of animal ears added to the procedure to detract from its true nature; "rabbit" ears are the most popular "model."

One lower-class Lunarian, "Reisen" (assumed, family name unrecorded), was one of numerous specimens whose synesthesia-based abilities wasn't completely disabled by the surgical procedure. The legendary physician Yagokoro Eirin attempted to restore her telepathic abilities; unfortunately, due to the initial damage to her forebrain, Reisen's synesthesic abilities have been permanently affected; as of the current moment, any attempt she makes to communicate with a lifeform through these means will cause a cascade of visible frequencies that will drive most creatures capable of perceiving the cardinal human spectrum irreversibly insane.
