Does /jp/ like STALKER?

>> No.6529597

Get out of here, Stalker.

>> No.6529599

I, personally, love it. Even streamed it for a while, though mostly only /k/ watched (they love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. more than /v/ it seems). They were good bros.

Your image seems Touhou-related, too. Do you have a translation? I want to get the joke.

You know, Stalker is great once you patch up the buggy mess.

Throw in some mods and it's one of the most enjoyable games in a while.

They're good games. Too bad Call of Chernobyl and the second one were riddled with bugs. I managed to get the true end on Chernobyl but never managed to actually finish the other two.

You need patience to play them, but it gets more bearable as you go, I guess.

>> No.6529619

Love it, but I've yet to complete any of them.

I've put around 20 hours into SoC just running back and forth between the Cordon and the Garbage. I keep running into bandits, and I can't get myself to just leave their stuff instead of selling it.

I never really played Clear Sky a lot. It just didn't seem nearly as appealing to me as the other two.

In CoP I made it to Pripyat, then started a fresh game with the Redux mod but stopped playing after a while. I should get back to it.

Actually, SoC is alright when you patch it up to date, and I still recommend people to first play it vanilla with the patches. If you don't get that vanilla experience, you won't appreciate mods and you won't know which mods you want/need. You also won't get that true Stalker feel.

I seem to be really lucky. During all the days I spent playing these games, I only ever ran into two bugs I remember. One of them was a minor lighting thing inside a locker, the other was me not being able to give a medkit to some wounded guy on the ground.
The latter was pretty annoying though, because he was lying in the middle of the road in the Cordon and wouldn't stop complaining.
Later Sidorovich had me kill him as a mission

This is all vanilla SoC, by the way. Haven't tried any of the mods yet, though I'm kinda interested in AMK.
In CoP I don't remember running into any bugs at all, neither with vanilla nor with Redux.

>> No.6529668

>>6529638

Well, LURK was pretty good, but they changed a lot of things going to 1.1, so you might not like the post-1.1 LURK compared to the pre-1.1 LURK. They're different in significant ways.

I think it's fairly well-agreed that AMK with AMK Arsenal (for SoC obviously) is the best all-around mod. I think you can even have Complete with AMK so you get the visuals of Complete with the gameplay and content of AMK. So, yeah. And don't ever play Oblivion Lost. It stole everything from AMK and made it worse (and much easier).

>> No.6529677

Have any of you guys read Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers or watched Stalker by Tarkovsky?
You can still feel where the inspiration for the games came from, but even so they're really different enough to remain interesting. You should check them out.
The film is really slow, though. And probably not what you'd expect from something these games are based on.

Yes! I recommend both of those to everyone interested in these games, too.

I've read pretty much everything written by the Strugatsky brothers I could get my hands on.
Hard to Be a God is probably my favorite of their novels.
I used to be a huge nerd when it came to sci-fi and fantasy, and since local libraries had huge collections of soviet literature(yay for living in eastern Europe, I guess), I was able to read most of their works when I was a teenager.

>> No.6529714

>Roadside Picnic

I read this in a Strugatsky compilation with Tale of the Troika and one other story that is escaping me right now. It was pretty strange.

A good one you also might like is "Wolves eat Dogs" by Martin Cruz Smith... it really has nothing to to with Stalker but it takes place in the zone and there is definite stalkan action going on.

>> No.6529752

>>6529714
I'd guess "Monday Begins on Saturday" would be included together with Tale of the Troika.

Personally I recommend Roadside Picnic to everyone.

>> No.6529763

I played SoC and CoP. Good games. I read A Roadside Picnic. It was pretty good. Unrelated, but the other story included, Tale of the Troika, was awesome.
