Half of Touhou's popularity stems from all of the doujin manga and games that spawn from it. In the west, we don't nurture anything equivalent to doujin in the same way that Japan does. Our copyright laws are too restrictive.

The main reason there is so much touhou music hype is because there is SO MUCH TOUHOU MUSIC. It lends itself to great arranges and remixes. You can hardly say the same for shitty western "remixes."

What? There's no real potential for the remixes anywhere, every single source tune I have ever heard is better than the remixes.

I know practically no real fanmade remixes of any songs that are actually better than the originals.
And if you're honestly saying that western composers in video games are bad on the whole, you need to fucking die. There are plentiful amounts of good music from western videogames.
And I do like metal, but 99% of all Touhou "metal" remixes are all fucking repetitive power metal esque shit. There's nothing with atmosphere or feeling in it anywere, let alone technicality.

Contained within is probably the most technically proficient display of rhythm guitar in any amateur-made videogame related thing ever made. Drums are also performed well, and the arrangement is top notch.

This is basically the type of quality music amateurs aim to reach. Notice how there's no filler tracks in the album as well.

Oh fuck, wait. I already have this album.

And I tried MyonMyon already, it fits the bill of what I described exactly. Same chords over and over afuckinggain. I think the only one I remotely liked from that was Shadow Shooter.
Anyway, as for Demetori, I think Eastern Dream and Ancient Forest are pretty much the only songs by that that don't fit the bill there. Great percussion though, and above average synth lead, definetly a lot better than the rest.

Not really that AMAZING though.

Also, Theme of Laura is the only good guitar song by Yamaoka. The rest are too repetitive/simplistic for their own good.

I'm glad that I've always had a hobby of transcribing music though, since I was 13 years old. Made teaching myself violin easy as hell; I'd like to buy a cello next. Cello seems way more fucking awesome.

Also as a guitar fag too, all I can say if you're an electric guitar fag, please develop your vibrato. I'm so tired of hearing good players with a weak, thin/quick, and girly vibrato.

It's pretty difficult to look for a Touhou song that matches that style of music (from Silent Hill) without pushing the boundaries of recognizability too much.

Dude, SH music isn't the only kind I like. I primarly like music that has a strong atmosphere, or else manages to evoke a of emotion in general. My favourite genres are Doom Metal, Post Rock, and Drum and Bass. I suppose I like funk a lot too.

The only Touhou music arrangements I've actually really liked are the piano ones. Keep it simple.

The main problem I have with all of it is the lack of range on the notes. There tends to be not much bass or midrange as one would expect in a more normal song, and it really shows up in both the originals and the rearrangements.

Grade 8, that's pretty pro. I know a few people done with level 10 piano and are done their ARCTS or whatever the hell it was. They were finished theory and were doing history, I guess, because the textbook was fucking MASSIVE. I mean like, FUCK, LOOK AT THIS - massive.

I was kind of turned away from the "synthy" aspect of touhou music. I didn't mind it in game, but it wasn't my style. But MyonMyon and Demetori corrected that for me. Alstroemeria wasn't that bad either. In either cases, I'm a touhou noobfgt, so I guess there's still plenty of music to be explored.
