I used Squall, Selphie, and Zell whenever I could. I even beat Omega with them. My Quistis was terrible because I never bothered to teach her all the Blue Magic. And by default, Rinoa and Irvine are useless.

My first run of FFVIII when I was a lad was Zell Squall and Rinoa, because I was boring
Second time I did everything, all cards, all side quests, all lvls, GFs to 100, all super weapons, Main party was Irvine, Zell, Squall (strongest limits, just aura spam and win everything) (cheating with zell is for faggots)

Magic only existed in that game for the dumb junction system, that was FF8s big downfall, besides that it was really fun. Even though FFVIII is my favorite I still think FFIX was the best FF game ever made. Fun story, Decent characters, cool locations, Awesome way to learn skills, and of course a very unique and well done battle system (cept the trance shit although it was cool too sometimes)

True story about FFIX, When I first played it I got to Necron or whoever the final boss was and couldn't beat him. I just couldn't. So I gave up, Fast foward many years, (sometime after FF XII) Decided to play it again for whatever reason. I completely restarted, so much fun. When I got to disc 4

Bought another copy on Ebay and finished up disc 4 getting rare cards, chocobos, whatever (still didn't beat the secret boss, didn't really care). Anyway I get to necron again.

I liked FFVIII for the music best, but then I understood how functionally retarded the plot is.
(UNLESS Rinoa is Ultimecia and Squall is really perma-charmed by her. Then it's the most epic trollplot ever.)

Without it I'd still say it's VI and VII. If you remove all the hype, those games were about something.
