>>6383642
That shouldn't be a huge problem. Books and paper publications are usually dealt with easier, and in general you should be able to get a certain amount of total value in purchases through, tax-free.

The problem is weight which is restricted on most international flights. Doujinshi is made of paper and the weight starts to add up pretty quickly. You have to pay extra for amounts over your limit, and if you've bought two suitcases full then you will probably pay at least twice your airfare. You will be asked to pay this at the airport before they even let you board the plane.

Some customs in the E.U. also make a huge deal about technology, like cameras, laptops, iPhones, and unless you can prove you bought it before you left, you have to pay import tax.

When you purchase stuff that needs to be shipped into the E.U. you have to pay the shipping fare and you have to pay tax on top of that.

many online ebay sellers don't write the correct value on the package, which means they avoid tax all together when shipping into Europe. I've seen it a couple of times when buying from Asia, though it's bound to go wrong some day.

Yes they are very iffy about technology. To the point that you're only allowed to take like 3 watches with you unless you can prove they are actually yours. Talking about free trade. Is it not obvious all these import taxes stimulate copying across the internet

Most of the stuff in the doujin shops will contain stuff that is loli-prosecutable if it were converted into live-action people. Just pray that you get over there to buy stuff before the next Republican president can push one of the party's agenda items to have all porn (live-action and illustrated) prosecuted under the same laws. When that day comes, your ex-friend or ex-girlfriend could simply turn you in for possession. It doesn't matter if you were convicted or not because simply having an accusation on your police record for child porn looks bad. It's only if you are convicted that you have to register as a sex crime offender wherever you move to.

To be honest I think the reason so many Japanese shops use EMS is because of the tracking. They're freaked out by the idea that someone could complain their package didn't arrive and have to deal with arguing in English. It's a pain but better than nothing.

To be honest SAL is pretty bad, sometimes you can get lucky and its super fast, but every now and then your package will take MONTHS, and probably be pretty battered when it arrives.

The real option is the in-between airmail. It's only a couple bucks more than SAL. Only place I shop at that uses it is CDJapan though.
