I'm reading through Tokyo Alice now, only about five minutes in. There have already been a few spelling and punctuation errors, but it's nothing too serious. Plot doesn't seem like anything worth mentioning either (the protagonist's childhood friend is called Arisu, is a ditz, and skipped school to play in Wonderland), but I heard it's supposed to be fairly sad, and since it's short I'll read it to the end.

>Why does it matter if it's animated or written?
It doesn't really matter.
The quality loss is present when one work is converted into a different media, one that works differantly and with other strengths/weaknesses.

If an anime had a VN adaptation the VN would most likely be shit, or at best, shit in comparison.
It doesn't matter what is, the quality loss is present when try to make A into B when it isn't B.

And yes, translated works have also been subjected towards quality loss, or translation loss as it is called.
Though I guess I don't have to explain why translations still contribute to less quality loss than a complete overhaul of the media.

It is easier to re-paint a cube, than it is to carve a perfect sphere out of it.

>> No.6375126

You're retarded.
As long as you take care to change it enough to fit the new media, there's absolutely no unavoidable loss of quality. There are multiple adaptations superior to the source material - there are even some VN -> Anime examples(Shuffle anyone?).

>As long as you take care to change it enough to fit the new media, there's absolutely no unavoidable loss of quality.
The same could be said for ordinary translations of one language to another.
But quality loss in form of translation loss is still a given thing.

But there is also a dilemma here, where depending on how true or faithful to the original you are, you may miss out on good/necessary things to alter to better suit this other media.
Many of the more sucessful adaptations are adaptations that have only taken the general gist of the original, and then made everything else according to what is suitable to their chosen medium, accepting that things are different and that the end product will be different. And sure, nothing wrong with that. Personally that method may actually be what I prefer, but it still sort of makes it into less of an adaptation in a way.
But the opposite isn't perfect either, because even if you stay amazingly true to the original, following the execution almost identically, then fans may feel familiar with the adaptation and it may be nice in one way, but it will also be increadibly dull as you have all of a sudden drawn off the strengths of another media, the media you haven't been using, and it shows.

But this is just one problem, there are others as well.
In either case, translations of languages and the adapting of one media to another, both results in a certain quality loss.

Considering that Ixrecs likes DEEP stuff and Subahibi is pretty much that. I see him easily liking it enough. So it's likely that if no one else does it he will do it someday.
It isn't soon tough, as he's doing Alternative, Sharnoth and Forest atleast. After that he has said he'd rather do something that there really isn't that much of representation, so if he doesn't like it at 10/10 then it probbably will not happen at that point, but later.

- is there any translation project going on

- what engine in runs on

Yes. Spoonfeed me, and I most likely will not translate it after all. But maybe...

That's because his comprehensive title selection list are based on vn_experts opinion, and what they recommend are objectively 7+ stuff at least. He stops playing at random or on personal findings after the first poll where Cross Channel wins and tlwiki fags start coming in.

>>6395696

He's trying to avoid criticism and the usual "lol how rated ___ lower than I like it, what a fag" or "lol he rated ___ higher than I like it, what a fag" by using that weird polarization system, so I don't see him giving less than 6-7 unless the game really is shit.

I think I'll pass on this one after all. Mainly due to the fact, that people would be too interested, and my TL-fu is not invincible. I should be able to make a playable translation on level of general (non-troll) anime subs, but it would not be perfect.

Guess I'll look for something shorter and less known, and devliver a complete trans someday. Or not.
