I am rather disappointed in Byakuren. For someone with such magnificent tits, she has an ass that can only be described as "average."
How can she possibly achieve true peace between humans and youkai if she doesn't have anything with which to back it up?

Are you having problems reading? Of course Dracula was a novel. Mr. Tepes was not a vampire, thank you very much. When fiction such as Castlevania or Hellsing feature Dracula, it's based on the novel, and both series incorporate the novel into their canon.

>> No.6204416

Now to further point out. I dont think all vampires have to go back to the original with the family tree. But in order to be a vampire its got to have the basic traits and those traits are simulare to the traits of the undead.

Weakness to sunlight. Some exceptions apply but as a general rule. Normally when the exception applys the reason for the exception is referenced. Undead have a weakness to it, vampires have an extreme weakness to it. Shes got it.

Consumes human flesh. Weather its blood or flesh this is a common trait. Shes got it.

Immortality, special powers and what not. Shes got it.

Had to be human at some point. Shes got it.

Now the one part that always has to apply is that its got to have died at some point. I dont know how the lunarians turned them in to vampires but so long as part of the process was death then she meets all the criteria for undeath.

Hey Araya, pretty obsessed with the Origin of things, aren't we?

The important thing is not the absolute origin, but the origin the material is drawing from. Most things about Dracula specifically draw from the novel and even feature characters from it, like Dr. Helsing in Hellsing and John Morris in Castlevania.

For example, as Gilgamesh in Fate/Stay Night pointed out, "The Sword in the Stone" is directly ripped from the Scandanavian tale of "The Sword in the Tree" aka Gram. Does everything in Arthurian mythology have to submit to conterpart legends in Siegfried's story? And that may not be the original either.

Your entire post is moot. You are arguing with out paying attention to one simple word that I pointed out twice. ORIGINAL. If Stokers book is based on lore, then its not the original.

Vampire lore has occurred through out history all the way back in to Greek mythology. His book most closely follows the folk lore about the count that was thought to rise from the dead and feast on the villagers.

Now if you want to find out what the original was, figure out what point the name Vampire, or Vampyre was coined. Since the biggest problem here is that she is called a vampire and to use that name you need to meet a certain criteria or else you delude the name. Then you may as well start calling anime cartoons, VN's Click games, manga comics, if you dont care about deluding a name.

Sorry if this is a little late, but from Chapter 5 of CiLR....

Under the dim light of the moon shadows are formed in all sorts of places; grasses, trees, mountains, rocks and buildings. One cannot hope to shine the Earth full of such complex shapes without creating shadows. Such shadows in various places create the human's fear and at times become legends of youkai. In a manner of speaking, the moon is the birth mother of the youkai.

Yes, but it is just the origin. This alone says nothing about the state of vampires in another canon. There could even be different types of vampires, as is the case with Tsukihime. All they had to do was say "the original vampires were made by mother nature as beings to protect the world...so yeah!" and that was that. Um, my whole point was that the original doesn't need to decide the state of the current work as long as it's not the same canon. A word is just a word and the meaning can change with the source. Things don't need to always stay the same as the origin defines it, especially if it's not in the same mythos. Remilia is immune to crosses, Alucard is immune to sunlight, and Arcuied is something else altogether. Different fictions can do whatever they want and don't need to be so narrowly defined.

But Arcuied wasn't undead as far as I could tell. She was just a powerful being created by the system with very little to do with vampire mythos other than desire to suck blood. Only later did the undead arise, and those are who she hunts.

But the point is, the word itself alone doesn't prove the status of dead/undead. The Scarlets already have the bat features and that alone is enough to declare them vampires without anything else from lore, but technically even that isn't needed. All a work has to do is give them a classification and that's that. Authors of fiction can make up whatever they want.

I'm afraid the point is we need to first agree on the definition of the word "undead".

The original was simply "not dead". Then Bram Stoker turned it into "vampire-like". The currently accepted definition is "something that's dead yet acts as if it's alive".

Your definition, on the other hand, seems to be "something that died in the past yet acts as if it's alive" and is actually quite uncommon, as far as I can tell. Note the distinction. You don't have to die to be considered dead/undead. See Frankenstein's Monster.

>> No.6204577

>>6204551
Exactly. I'm not saying it's good to ignore lore. I'm saying that original lore can't be used as a deciding factor in ascertaining the traits of "vampires" in other sources. The Scarlets weren't undead because of original lore, until ZUN the author decided to suggest that they are.

It's like saying someone is human in an anime. Does that mean he is weak compared to demons? Or does that mean he is essentially has superpowers and can jump 50 feet into the air like every other important human in the series? Real definitions and limitations don't apply.

Obviously, but then they'd (also obviously) not be vampires in the first place.

The word "vampire" means something. Unless you can point out some part where the author states "I just call them vampires, they're something else actually", we HAVE TO assume they have qualities that the word "vampire" implies, just like we have to assume that when someone writes "blue" he means blue and not red. Otherwise, all language would be pointless and interpersonal communication impossible.

>> No.6204638

True, but it depends on how people view vampires. The number one thing most associated with vampires is bats, and the Scarlets already have that covered. It's tough to decide exactly what is part of a definition and what isn't. I suppose we can make assumptions based on the definition until the author comments on it, but it isn't really definitive. For all you know, the author might be unaware of a certain aspect of the lore or just has a different view.

Speaking of definitions, here is the first sentence from Wikipedia:
