The easier games (PCB/IN/MoF/FW) on Lunatic, the harder ones on Hard, except UFO Hard and FW Extra.

I've 1cc'd all the games on normal and Lotus Land Story on hard which is pretty much normal difficulty compared to the other games. I can usually get to stage 5 on hard in EoSD, PCB, and IN.

I play a lot of STGs and came to like Touhou because I thought the bullets were prettier. I don't get the some of the elitism I've seen surrounding 1CC'ing these games in particular. If you like them and enjoy playing them, you're a fan.

MoF is the other one that I have 1cc'd (bombs away~)

I've gotten close to the other, just working on stage 6.

Why are they so much harder than they should be?

Hell, stage 4 of IN feels almost like a toned down extra, that's the only reason I haven't 1cc'd it yet, Reisen is easy compared to them.

Uh, except he's right. it's generally accepted that stage 4 IN is much harder than stage 5.

As for myself, I've 1cced every game on Lunatic except GFW and UFO, which have both been done on Hard.

Also, just tried Extra PCB since I didn't yesterday, made it to Ran's 3'd spell card at best after 4 attempts.

Should I worry about beating the games on hard before worrying about extra?

What's the worry? Whatever you want to do. As far as transition goes, you should have already heard the general opinion that it's situation between Normal and Hard. More emphasis on memorization on average, usually intermediate-level dodging with some attacks suitable for the harder end of Lunatic patterns, or above.

Personally, I cleared Extra next after my first Easy clear. I didn't know any better, but that's what I wanted more than anything else at the time.

Beat all the Windows games on normal except IN and SA. I don't like IN so I never play it and SA is too hard. Orin is as far as I have gotten.
I play lots of other shmups too, ranging from R-Type to Mushihimesama.

There's people here who can clear Lunatic/Extra in most if not all the games. They're not around very often though because people of that caliber would be rare for almost any game.

There's really no easy way to tell until a Danmaku / PoFV thread shows up, and when was the last time one of those appeared? The occasional gameplay thread isn't a good indicator either aside from the elitists, but I have a hard time believing anyone could put enough time into 1CCing multiple games on Lunatic, and still act like an asshole.

I wouldn't say it goes as far as obsession. Yes, people start on different levels, and for myself I couldn't play for shit at the start. A steady investment each day is all it should take, not drastic measures for something like 1CCing Lunatic. It would take time, but much less of a timesink than MMOs considering the issue of burning out a few hours in. Just some free time at the end of the day.
