It just feels that way because they are the oldest household, which means that they do have most stuff over time, but as for new things that get released they aren't that overwhelming at all. SDM covers many all cliches and moe appeals at once.
Maid, tsundere, healthy, batshit crazy, charismatic loli, batshit loli, bratty loli, kuudere, kneesocks, lolicon, S&M, guro, bloodplay, librarian.
Of course most of those aren't canon but has that ever stopped anyone? And it's one of the most popular Touhou games of all times. Other games are too but characters comes in pairs or even as a stand-alone or aren't as popular.
