This gamepad support scares me more than anything, really.

If the gamepad is supported nicely, it usually means the game is dumbed down for the pad players so the skill cap is greatly lowered.

Like if someone tried to play WoW with a PS3 pad, he'd get buttowned into the stratosphere in literally 10 seconds in pvp.

It's dumbed down in the same way that Demon's Souls and Monster Hunter are.

This boss will take you down to 20% of your max HP in one hit, and if you fuck up slightly by hitting the attack button 1 more time than you should have, you'll get hit. Heck, even the first gnoll boss can kill you in one hit if you aren't wearing armor, or 2-3 if you're in armor.

Different kinds of actions. I'm not talking about the act of hitting buttons, mostly moving around. Using the WoW example again, PvP there is literally 99.9% how well you can control your character (and not "hit this button").

The main difference is the "open" world of MH versus linear paths through levels in Vinductus. Barring that, the games are rather similar. You queue up a quest, get on the boat, and off you go.

Kill monsters, make armor out of monters. Combat could be likened to either MH or DS, depending what on what you're doing.

Boss fights are a blend of caution and aggression, and paying attention to how the boss is acting. Bosses tire as they do in MH, although the player's stamina bar won't decrease over time like in MH.

It's probably the best free MMO I've played, though we only had a minimum of content in the closed beta (2 regions, ended up at ~L12).

I personally prefer Monster Hunter's gameplay. Vindictus does do a good job of giving off a Monster Hunter feel to an MMO, however.

One thing to note, though, is you're going to die fast if you play Vindictus like MH. It took me a few bosses to figure out that rolls don't actually give you invincibility frames. You actually have to roll out of the way. In the end, Monster Hunter may require more skill and is a bit more in-depth than Vindictus, but Vindictus looks to be an interesting game nonetheless. Also, the feeling of dropping someone on your knee and breaking their back is exhilarating.

Hmm, well, I've played Demon's Souls and Monster Hunter pretty extensively, this game didn't disappoint me. I have no idea if we've had difficulty tweaks, but the levels do have difficulty settings, you can put them on Normal or Hard (maybe Easy too, but that's for nerds), and many levels give you an Oath option to increase the difficulty further.

The differences between options seems to affect how aggressive the monsters are, and how quickly they will retaliate if you don't stun them. I think the raw damage is affected as well.

Yeah, it's a bit harder to roll successfully in Vindictus, since you have to completely avoid the enemy's model.

The upside is that the hitboxes seem very accurate, the downside might be lag issues, but I never experienced such. I suppose invincibility frames would be kind of a blessing in an online game, to compensate for slight lag issues.
