That doesn't mean any of them are bad. I just like 3 for DAT TROLL and 5 for the whole trial and kinzo's study scene.
1 is good because of the actual mystery novel feel.
6 was alright, and it provided quite a lot of info, but it had some dense parts as well.
4 has some decent scenes as well, and it's the climax of umineko no naku koro ni.
2 is ok because of rosa musou and because it has plenty of closed room battles, also, the tea party.

I seem to be the only person who really likes Episode 4 though. I don't know why, I always thought it was the one that threw the most "what the fuck, that was awesome" moments at you. Sure, the first part was boring shit, but once you got to the actual conference, that shit was awesome. Not to mention the Tea Party was one of the best (reserving judgement for episode 7), and the ??? was an amazing end.

3 was just awesome, loved 5. 4 and 2 were good but didn't love them. 6 annoyed the hell out of me, everytime something was "expalined" it took way to much time and it felt like it everytihng was restated 1000000 times, although tea parties were pretty badass. I've reread episode 1 too many times, so really it's just rated last out of boredom.

I can't compare it in suc a simple way because all episodes have their high and low points. Episode 6, for example, was a bit boring in the beginning, but then it had awesome magic fighting and logic duel.
Episodes 5 and 3 were awesome from the beginning till the end.

5 - pure awesome. Finally a competent detective, with a personality that matches mine, destruction of witch's lies, baww and awesome at the end.
7 - answers, answers everywhere. It-all-makes-sense-now feeling, baw and awesome.
2 - starts slow and boring, but gets better and better with Beato trolling the shit out of everyone.
4 - I like Ange, baw and some philosophy.
1 - we actually had a mystery feeling back then.
3 - danmaku battle and the best Tea Party in the series (ep7 tp is out of contest because of length)
6 - pretty much this >>6121330. I hated everything and BaBeato especially after this episode.

EP1 was great, setting up the story while being an entertaining enough story on its own.

EP2 didn't quite reach the same level, but it served its purpose in establishing the "rules" of the game, the red truth and Beatrice as a ruthless villain. The ending was nice, too.

EP3 was amazing; we got to see glimpses of another side of Beatrice and the showdown with Eva Beatrice at the end was PAAFEKUTO. Then the reveal came and I felt like an idiot (I really should've seen it coming, but I didn't want to suspect it ;_;). All in all a great episode and the best I've read so far.

EP4, in comparison, felt pretty slow. I didn't really care much for Ange's backstory so I basically skimmed past large chunks of text. The entire fight/escape sequence from George's "I'll start with you" to Kyrie's death was amazing though and I'll have to replay it one of these days. Ending was nice; the mysteries surrounding Beatrice deepened and the reveal that she could've easily have one if she had chosen to was a bit chilling.

I don't think there's a whole lot to say about EP5; the escape from Kinzo's study was great (though it almost turned sour when you remembered that Battler and Beato were only pieces at the time) and the hidden tea party was fantastic. All in all I thought it was on par with, if not just a tiny bit better than, EP4, but not quite at EP3's level.

EP6 was probably, along with EP2, the weakest episode so far (although I still quite enjoyed it). The cookie scene and Battler's subsequent "monologue" was nice, and the sequence of events from Shannon and Kanon's duel to Beato crashing the wedding and the duel with Erika was great. It wasn't without its problems, however, and I couldn't help but to feel a little disappointed as the credits rolled.

Now back to trying to learn Japanese so I can find out how this mess ends before I grow old.

Even with retrospect I quite liked the study scene. It nicely displayed a side of Battler we hadn't yet seen. And as I recall it's mentioned later that A piece must have been capable and somewhat willing to do what it does from the beginning.

To me this makes the scene an indicator that Battler is at least competent enough to take on Dlanor, and that he's willing to defend Beatrice, though at the time in a roundabout way, since he's defending Natsuhi with the argument.

As much as I loved (and I really, really did) the over-the-top crazy awesome factor of Episode 5 (and to a lesser extent 3 and 4), I also loved Episode 7's quiet, soft, melancholy feeling throughout. It was unique to the series up till that point and perfect for what 7 was trying to do--and when it came time to shatter in the tea party it was probably the most hands-shaking intensity Umineko has ever given to me. Other episodes have more AWESOME, no doubt, but EP7 was just really well put together and it left me feeling like no other episode had before when I was done.

And I thought Episode 7's music was, again, gorgeous and perfect for accomplishing what it was trying to do. Goddamn, the executioner.

4 and 6 mostly the less because Ange scenes. EP4 had the goddamn Goldsmith and Tea Party, and EP6 had the Logic Error scenes and Erika, but Ange fucked up.
