There was a moth dive-bombing my laptop all night. I got tired of batting it away and just let it walk around. It finally settled down on the plastic bar above my keyboard and went to sleep. I think. Do moths sleep?

Anyway, I think it looks kinda moe.

>> No.5717820

Moths do sleep, but they're nocturnal (I think), so be sure not to squish them. :3

Here's an oleander moth.

My favorite moths are those of the genus Brenthia. Folding their wings in a bizarre pattern and hopping around in a jittery manner unexpected from moths, those fool jumping spiders into thinking they're one of them. Other favorites include the vampiric Calyptra, of which mouthparts can pierce either fruit or skin to reach juice or blood; various tear-drinking moths such as Chaeopsestis ludovicae which can attack even humans or Hemiceratoides hieroglyphica which, ironically, hunts down birds; carnivorous bagworm Perisceptis carnivora which decorates its "bag" with the remains of its prey. Lobster moths, cecropia moths and many-plumed moths are also notable simply because they look awesome, the first two more so as larvae.

Here's pellucid hawkmoth.

And speaking of insects and moe, ambrosia beetles should be mentioned. Those are in a symbiotic relationship with fungi, which is sometimes the sole source of food for them. The ambrosia fungus, in turn, cannot grow or spread properly without the beetle tending to it (ie: excavating tunnels in the tree to promote fungal growth) and carrying it to other trees in specialized structures called mycangia.

Think of it as a wheelchair-bound fungus girl taking the role of a housewife and cooking for her beloved ambrosia beetle "wife", who works for her comfort, taking her outside for walks and carrying her to their bed every night.

The fan is a nice touch. Many moths and butterflies (including your red underwing moth) rely on surprise to evade attackers, with wings drab on one side and brightly colored on the other. When attacked, they take flight and the bright colors show, the change confusing predators until the lepidopteran makes its escape. I suppose the fan would have different colors on both sides.

Aposematic colors are also common and so effective that the tropics are full of mimicry complexes featuring several different butterflies all mimicking each other. Moths (especially tiger moths, if I recall), being nocturnal and hunted by bats who rely on sound, similarly give off "warning clicks" which are also imitated by non-poisonous species.

Here's a comma butterfly with wings closed.

Since we´re all opening up, i´m gonna tell ya my story. I lived in a really crappy apartment for six months. And by crappy I really do mean crappy.

One day, I was sleeping, when i felt something moving in my hand. I wake up, and I find a little yellow scorpion chillaxing there. Still groggy, I threw it out the window.

Days later, he comes back. I throw it out again, then it came back days later. Repeat that several times.

Sadly, a scorpion isn´t as cute or passive as a moth, so the sixth time I had to kill him. Still, I liked that scorpion. And I think that scorpion liked me.

Imagine tenderly loving your tarantula waifu, only for her to kick reflexively and spray her barbed urticating spines all over your stomach. Seeing her cute, tearful face and hugging her while saying it's okay would be worth all the pain.

Though not a moth, another insect I'm very fond of is the feather-legged assassin bug. Those secrete a sweet liquid from their abdomens, which ants are attracted to. The liquid also sedates the ants, allowing the assassin to prey upon them with ease.

Imagine being an ant girl with a cheerful-looking, "onee-sama" type assassin bug girl offering candy to you. You'd quickly doze off and wake up in her house, with her revealing a three-segmented rostrum on her crotch and telling you she always liked you. You'd tell her to stop, but she'd just say "Ufufufu~" and keep going until you admit you like her too.

Being raped by a forward, bold elder sister type is my fetish.
