I just got an idea, maybe Erika is a real girl and not some construct of Bern. Due to love problems (as hinted in her confession to Dlanor) she attempted to commit suicide and then at the last minute Bern stepped in, told her about the love nonsense happening at Rokkenji and asked her to stomp it out. Just being deceived with love Erika jumped at the idea to crush the love of others and agreed. Cue the life jacket etc etc.

Does it sound plausible?

Also why is she so perfect?

Also, in EP1(I think?) there's some lines about Battler's acquaintances warning him to be more serious with women. Probably even more than I can recall...

I still don't care for that theory. I just don't see Battler being a dudebro or a playboy like his father(doesn't he even call Rudolf out on that?) who just fucks women and plays with their hearts. When he says he plays with a lot of girls at once I just imagine a popular guy who has lots of female friends, not someone like how Kyrie describes Rudolf in his youth. You could say that Battler might not have taken a relationship with her seriously while she did, but from Erika's flashback we see her boyfriend tell her he loved her back, but when she got annoying told her to fuck off. I just can't see that in Battler's character, either to lie about loving her(if this was just some casual thing he would have told her that, not put forth evidence that he really did love her), or to be so callus towards her.
And besides that, although they certainly can't stand each other, you'd think Erika would have a more seething hatred for him in the beginning of Ep5; the two of them pretty much chill out for a long time. Erika only really starts to show contempt for him later on.
Overall, while I think it's an interesting theory, it lacks good evidence and goes against established character traits.

shes an author's construct, put there to explain the elements of the story. She has no history with any of the other characters, she's made up.
