Evolution is only a theory because it's so difficult to prove. You would need millions of years to observe it properly, and even then people might claim that evolution is true now but it wasn't true then, God just made it true past a certain point.

And the fields are also vastly different so people who have studied both fields on the higher levels are a scarce and almost next to none.
This is one of the major reason why "evolutionists" can't get along even among their own theories (and they don't get along if you follow their actual reports etc), they both point out heavy flaws in eachothers arguments and cause they both study from different percpectives they have a hard time understanding eachother.

There are many flaws in the theory of evolution, but perhaps time will tell.

This. Evolution is pretty much as rock solid as anything can be in science. It's more solid than gravity. We know exactly how it works, and have observed in action both in nature and in countless experiments, and it always works just like we think it does. This knowledge is the practical basis of a large chunk of modern medicine, among some more exotic things like software design. Evolution is as true as true can be.

The main source of confusion is motherfuckers who think Big Bang theory, abiogenesis or shit like that is a part of "evolution". They're not.

Well to be more accurate, in science both evolution and gravity have fact and theory.

There is fact of gravity, you can see it when you drop an apple and falls.

There's different theories of gravity like Newtonian motion, relativity, quantum gravity and so on. They all try to explain WHY apples fall. Some of them like Newtonian motion have already been disproved (although still useful in most everyday situation), and we know for a fact that we don't have a complete theory of gravity.

There's also the fact of evolution. It's possible to experimentally observe evolution, so you can't doubt the fact that it exist.

There's currently only one theory of evolution which explains why it happens by random mutation and natural selection. Unlike gravity, there's no other theory to explain evolution, because the existing theory is so damn good it's most likely true. But alas it's a theory because science have to be open to other theories if some can actually better explain evolution somehow.
