Download the 4Chan Sounds greasemonkey script to hear the music embedded in the image file.

This time, it's Waterway ~ MIO, which did not actually feature in any of the games, and was instead a Hymmnos CD exclusive track (Concert Side Blue, to be exact). Performed by Akiko Shikata. Enjoy.

To be fair she had good ideals, she just went about it the wrong way. The way of uniting the world is not to kill everyone, or in this case separating every soul in Ar Ciel from their bodies, in order to purify the land and bring about peace. It's actually a pretty fucked up way of thinking, to be honest. Regardless I still love listening to EXEC_over._METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~omness chs ciel sos infel simply because it's sounds so soothing and peaceful despite the lyrics/purpose of the song. I got goosebumps hearing it the first time while I was playing AT2.

Well, she was an orphan in the slums who got picked up by Grammul at random one day, thrust into government research (good) and ass-kissing (bad), and on the day of she had all the IPDs reject her Metafalica attempt because, lathough she was working all-out to realize that dream, she was doing it for INFEL AND NENESHA, and not selflessly doing it for THEM, which apparently makes HER a huge bitch for some reason, and she was terrified of having them look into her mind in the first place. As a direct result of that rejection she gets to watch Raki, having just blazed through a bunch of Grand Bell troops, walk up to them with the blood-stained hair of their personal guard (one of the two people who seems to actually give a damn about Infel) wrapped around her foot and proceed to plunge her arm deep into the chest of the other person. I suppose that would turn you a little cynical and messed up.

I personally knew her circumstances but my point still stands. No matter what fucked up events have happened to her in the past that's no excuse for trying to justify 'sublimation' of the entire planet if she truly wanted to obtain peace. The fucked up thing is that it would have occurred a few years later anyway if nobody had stepped in.

Also, can this be a GUST General thread, too? I'm curious about Atelier Rorona, but it looks like it has very heavy time and crafting management, with the combat part minor, and I wonder if that might turn me off a bit (time limits in games are a weakness of mine, especially when you have to do a certain amount of tasks in a certain, acceptable way before time's up). Then again, the only Atelier game I played was Atelier Iris 1, which was more of a traditional RPG with mostly optional alchemy.

There's also the fact that at this point they're pretty much trying to make whatever money they can off those games because they think no one gives a crap anymore. ...and I'm(more or less) done Ar Tonelico I.
Took me almost exactly 50 hours(last save at 49 hours 48 minutes), and I still haven't 100%-ed it(the things I could without doing the other path, that is) - but after spending some 7 hours yesterday grathmelding, making money, recrystallizing and grinding for items, I decided to get it over with.
So, was it a good game?
...not really. Story wasn't that great, some interesting characters were poorly developed, the pacing was bad, and the gameplay was really horrible in some aspects.
Did I enjoy it?
Every single second of it. Even when it made me mad.
It's a game with a soul, and the kind of innocence that's long gone from western rpgs.
And it has Misha.
Pretty much only single thing that annoyed by the end was that Lyner never expressed any kind of feelings towards Misha(whose path I vehemently followed) - even when the time came to choose between her and Shurelia, he only motivated his decision by "I promised to go with her". Between this and his actions earlier it felt like Misha was stuck in one-sided relationship with him. There really was a serious lack of any kind of emotional conclusion to their relationship. For a game with such an amount of sexual innuendo, I expected at least a kiss at the end.

That's one of the reasons people half-jockingly say AT1's canon route is an harem one.
Lyner never shows any particular affection to any of the heroines, beside being close friends, so most likely he just ends up in the middle of a 3way catfight without a clue on what's going on.
If it makes you feel better, in AT2 Croix declares his love pretty early in the game.

And your plugins are definitely up to date? If so then try switching the graphics plugin around. ZeroGS and GSdx work fine for me but GSdx had some texture problems in AT1 so a simple switch was all that was needed until I updated my graphics plugins.

I should try out the AT games one of these days. Other than 3D Dot Game Heroes (which I've been neglecting) and Hexyz Force, I don't have much to play at the moment. I was playing Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love for a long time and while I liked the game even I started getting burnt out for replaying the game over and over again to get all the heroines' scenes and endings (and I still have 2 more to go).

I think we're about, at most, half a century off from an actual self-aware computer with human emotions. Ehh. Spoilering this because Tsuchiya held off saying it outright until Japan had all played AT3, but the minds of the Origins and Betas are housed solely in the Towers. They're all AIs running in the Tower's SH servers according to word of god. Origins' bodies, I assume, are crazy feats of biomechanical engineering, and Betas' bodies are basically song magic programs that convert a special solution seeded around their Nuclear Triangular Loop into their bodies - that's what happens in those capsules they're born out of, and why they turn into water when their Nuclear Triangular Loop runs out of juice. Third generations are basically humans with the bits from Origins and Betas that allow them to access the Tower.

So, what you're saying may be true, but it's not really in line with the mechanics behind RTs in AT - check out the translations of the settei books, technical service centers, and technical data compilation rooms for more info on that if you care to.

The rest of your post I find interesting, but I'm kind of skeptical. It's all out of my immediate sphere of knowledge, so trying to argue it would be stupid, but pointers to summaries of relevant information (with maybe links to more in-depth stuff for possible follow-ups later) would be appreciated.

Yeah, what does "powerful" mean? Admittedly I haven't been paying attention, but I don't understand how people toss around FLOPS as any sort of meaningful comparison to what the brain does. Trinity Universe started off a bit slow, but has nice 3d exploring, and the battle system is pretty deep in any battle I'm not curbstomping, because you need to micromanage everyone and sometimes remember exactly what to do for everyone in a pretty short time, if you want maximum effect(I.E. chain attacks between party members)

Shurelia's linkage was the first model, it looks heavy and encumbering, but there are some details such as the crown and the cape which symbolize she's Ar Tonelico admin, the master tower.
Tilia's linkage was more advanced, it looks light and comfortable, plus it follows the tower's style with the holo wings and the granothode discs which symbolize she's the admin of Sol Cluster's tower, focused on general research.

It's all personal choice, really. Design wise I like Saki her tumours are well hidden so they aren't really an issue. As for Finnel I'll admit they took her delicious flatness a little over the top and her costume is a little basic but otherwise I think she looks fine, especially those delicious thighs and datass. It's a shame she doesn't let her hair down though, she looks 100 times better. Tilia.. eh, she has datass and DFC which is great but I'm personally not a fan of short hair and combined with her relatively basic outfit she's pretty dull to me from a design point of view. I like her full linkage armour though. With personality added in I completely dislike Saki whilst I love Tilia and Finnel. I use this, seems to run everything perfectly fine. Everything else is on default. Using the plugins from like March or something along with beta r1888 of PCsx2. 1280x960 is only to remove the black border from 1280x1024. I'm not sure if the new beta release + plugins are any different but I'm too lazy to update it when it already works fine.

No, it had severe sprite transparancy faults. When you crashed and get the first convo with dem knights, the large character pictures were fine, in the village, the transparent parts would flicker like mad, for both characters. Well, Idea Factory seems to have done it right, because Trinity Universe might be better in some departments, but it's not a yawnfest, since you can do all kind of Legaia-like attack chaining, and then pass combos to other characters for maximum effect, but once you get a combo started, you are on real time, so you're on the edge, trying to remember everyone's best combo, who you're gonna pass to next, which kind of attack is the enemy weak to, etc. If I had to complain about something, is that while the 2d scenes are pretty good, with character models even moving and breathing, the 3d models for characters aren't something you would expect on a PS3, but an average 2d title, with maybe the exception of main characters who get a little more action in dungeon exploration and show more work.

Going back and playing AT1, I've noticed a few things, the art and general quality went way down between 1 and 2. Also, AT1 had one of the best packaging of any game I've bought. With the hardback art book, and how you slide them out the back instead of opening the box. If only it came with a soundtrack disc in there too.

Just putting this out there but the guys in NIS who are working on Ar Tonelico 3 and Atelier Totori said there wont be a release until AT LEAST summer next year. The guy I managed to ask was also one of the editors and he said they were basically just taking it easy.
On another note, I can't get the Song of Pepen out of my head. Goddamnit.
