/jp/ thinks reading a book in the bath is somehow difficult and/or inevitably results in the book getting wet?

I don't understand how NEETs can be so incompetent. In my last apartment I pratically lived out of my bathtub cause everything else was gross and/or uncomfortable. I often ate while reading a book in the tub.

There's nothing better than a hot bath, a cold drink, and a good book.

Even if you don't end up getting the book wet, it feels weird to have everything else in the water and make a concerted effort to keep your hand or hands out.

The apartment was ancient, so the bathtub was from the fifties or sixties when they were still made of steel sheeting with real enamel/porcelain. I could jump in it and the bottom wouldn't flex. Not even soap scum would stick to that sucker. It also had a sloped back so it was awesome for lounging in.

I loved that goddamn bathtub, and it's the only part of that apartment I will ever miss.

Are bath tubs in Japan heated in any way?
I can barely get enough hot water in my heater to fill the tub up and it gets cold after like seven minutes.

I know they have those things in Japan that heat the water as it comes through the pipe, so they basically don't run out, but do they just drain some and draw more hot water when it starts to cool?

Try filling the tub only halfway with hot water, and then just leave it running with a medium trickle of hot water. You have to stir the water with your legs once in a while so your feet don't boil, but it keeps the bath hot almost indefinitely.

Alternately, get an in-line water heater connected to your bath. It's kind of like a toaster element which hangs inside the water pipe.
