I used to be really into the games, and I played them a lot over a year ago, and then I lost interest. Every time ZUN releases another game, I'll play it for a bit until I get bored and then won't play it again for a while or if I'm trying to waste time and I have nothing better to do (which is BS because I do have better stuff to do, but I can do them later, amirite?)

I've played and cleared the main games, and I really enjoy them. (The fightans are the only exception. I suck at fighting games ;_;) I wasn't into the genre previously to Touhou, but I heard parts of the OST and decided that I wanted to try the games out. I love the combination of the visuals and the music in the games, and that's why I stuck around. I'm the kind of person who wouldn't and couldn't be into something this much if I didn't like the original.

In the end though, I end up spending more time on fan materials than the originals, but only because there's such a crazy amount.

And People who haven't played the games should at least try. I'm a normal player, and I actually haven't even cleared all the games, even though I've spent many many hours trying to clear them, exception being the StB's and PoFV. Touhou is hard, but you can still enjoy it for the visuals and the music... plus, Easy mode exists for a reason and all.

I've been playing Touhou for quite a while. I can't 1cc all the games constantly, but I still try. As for doujins and music, they don't really interest me. The only fanon thing I collect is doujin games, but I've started to realize they're pretty shitty (with the exception of Concealed the Conclusion).

I play the games (shooting, fighting, picture taking) and I enjoy them a lot, despite the fact that I fucking suck at them most of the time. Sadly, I'm probably the best at the tasofro games, then the StB/DS games, and then in last place are the "actual" Touhou games.

Being good at the games doesn't draw the line between primary and secondary, though.


Regarding the whole secondary "fanon" stuff, I actually find it pretty fascinating. Sure, it's a total bastardization of what ZUN actually writes in the games, but it's incredible to see how far people run with these characters that usually only show up for a single level, say a few lines of text, and are then defeated in a fantastic show of danmaku.
