While riding on a train home, you fall asleep and begin to have a strange dream. You see a woman in a purple and white dress, and she begins to speak to you.

"Rise and shine, Nanashin, rise and... shine. Not that I wish... to imply that you have been sleeping on... the job. Perhaps it is fate that you have been discovered...or merely it...is coincidence. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So wake up, Nanashin...wake up and... smell the sakura."

You immediately wake up, and the once-crowded train is strangely empty. Looking out the window, you see a landscape that resembles feudal Japan. The train comes to a complete stop, and you exit. Immediately after you leave, the train disappears without a trace. With nothing but your cell phone, a bit of cash on hand, and the clothes on your back, you have been left in the middle of Gensokyo.

You look down from the hill that you're on, see several places in the distance. A mountain, a lake shrouded in mist, a small village, and a shrine on another nearby rise.

Deciding the mountain would offer the best view of this strange area and can be clearly seen for a good distance, you decide that it would be in your best interest to at least head there and make camp. Judging from the distance from your current location, you estimate that it should take you a full day to get there, even if going at a brisk pace.

As you start your trek through the forest, you notice that it seems eerily quiet, but otherwise nothing else noteworthy. Just as you begin to appreciate the silence, you feel a powerful gust of wind from above as a shadow passes over you in a split second, followed by what sounded like a car hitting a tree.

After hearing the crash, you decide to investigate what happened. Even though it may have been a natural phenomenon, it could help you understand what kind of place you're now stranded in and how to avoid some of the more dangerous things that may happen.

You trudge through the forest in the direction of the crash and can hear a rustling of leaves. As you get closer to the source of the noise, you notice some black feathers along with branches and leaves littering the ground.

Stopping to look at the rather large feathers, you hear a voice from the branches above. "Ayayaya, I really should look where I'm flying..." Looking up, you notice a girl with black wings stuck in the upper branches of the tree, currently in the process of freeing herself.

As you stare in bewilderment of this winged girl who had obviously been the cause of the noise by flying into a tree. As she maneuvers herself to get her wings free, she accidentally gives you a glimpse up her skirt as she finally gets the last of the leaves out of her hair and wings.

After she has completely freed herself from the tree, she jumps down to the forest floor and away from you. She seems to be searching for something, but hasn't noticed you yet. She also looks visibly worried, as her wings flutter a bit at every turn she makes.

"Hm?" She stops her search and turns around to stare at you for a second before giving you a small smile.

"Oh, hey! What's a human like you wandering around so close to the Youkai mountain? Don't you know how dangerous it is?"

"I'm sorry...I've never heard of Youkai mountain."

She seems to become happier at your ignorance. "Never heard of it? So...that means you're an outsider? From the human world? This is great! I finally have some new material! Wait right here, I need to find my camera...it should be around here somewhere..."

She seems to be quite concerned about her camera, so you assume that it must be important to her, despite how out-of-place such a thing would be in what seems to be an ancient countryside. You decide to aid her in her search and begin kicking around leaves and in the shadows of larger trees, any place where it could have fallen.

You eventually notice the camera hanging by its strap on a low-hanging branch, and reach up to grab it. The camera itself is unusually modern; a slightly older digital model, something that would be found in the lower-end section of an electronics store. You decide to turn it on and successfully confirm that it still works, although it's a bit beaten up.

You look over at the girl who is still searching for her now-found camera, bent over in a provocative position.

Feeling that this is an opportunity that's too good to pass up, you take a picture of her bent over form, getting a successful panty shot. There's an audible click as the camera goes off, and a small chime at the sound of the successful saving of the picture. You start to curse yourself as you realize that this camera isn't yours, but rather it belongs to the girl who you had been ogling.

At the sound of the camera going off, the girl turns around at you and notices you fiddling with it in your attempt to find and delete the picture you had just taken and approaches you.

"Yeah, that's my camera, alright! It seems you know how it works, too." She looks at you intently as you mess with the controls."

"Yeah...something like that." You begin to get more nervous due to the chance she might see the picture you took of her. After finding it, you take a quick glimpse of it and then hit the "delete" button before handing it back to her.

"Fancy piece of equipment you have there. I wouldn't expect to find something so modern in this place."

"It fell in here by chance from the outside world..." She takes the camera back and puts it around her neck before aiming it at you and focusing the lens. "Kind of like you!" She then takes a picture of you. "I need to learn more about you, and what the outside world is like! Do you want to come back with me to the mountain?"

While you're not completely reluctant to accept this strange bird-girl's offer, her appearance and enthusiasm to take you back with her raises a few questions. Maybe you could trust her more if she actually gave out some information about herself.

"Well, since I was going there anyway, I'll consider it...but first, do you mind telling me who you are and why you want to personally escort me there?"

She looks at you with a somewhat hurt glare, and eventually forms into a smirk. "You don't think I'm the type of girl to take advantage of an unwitting man to rape, kill, and eat him, are you?" Then she gets uncomfortably close to you and whispers in your ear, "Well, maybe I'm not above doing SOME of that to you..." After backing away and being amused at your obvious uneasiness regarding her 'proposition,' she laughs a little bit.

"Oh, please. I'm nothing like that. Sorry for not introducing myself earlier."

She takes out a small roll of paper from a pocket in her skirt and hands it to you. "This is the Bunbunmaru Newspaper. My name's Aya Shameimaru, but you can just call me Aya. I'm the only reporter of various major events and interest stories."

You take a look at the newspaper and flip through it, noticing a lot of the articles have an air of untruth to them before handing her back the paper.

"I've been trying to find something interesting, but it's so peaceful that I can only report on little things, and that doesn't make a really good read. YOU, however..." she takes a few more pictures of you from different angles and continues,"are VERY interesting. So, would you agree to an interview?"

You look at the reporter and shrug. "I guess, but I'm not all that interesting. The outside world is a pretty boring place compared to somewhere like this."

"That doesn't matter, we hardly hear anything about what goes on beyond the border! Even your everyday life is big news to us." She takes off her camera and hands it to you. "Mind putting this in your pocket until we get there?"

You take her camera and put it in a safe pocket with a zipper. "It should be fine here."

"Okay, then." She then approaches you and wraps her hands around you in a very tight hug, with her whole body pressed up against you. You can't help but feel a little bit aroused by this, and she seems to notice it. "This is the only way I can get you there safely. Grab onto me and hold on tight."

You hesitantly wrap your arms around her below the wings. She unfolds her black wings, scattering a few loose feathers as she does.

"Ready? Here we go." As she takes off, you feel an incredibly strong wind. You're not sure how fast you're going, but it's much faster than anything you could have managed on your own.

You manage to move your face away from her shoulder and look at her face, noticing her soft features.

"So...what are you, anyway? I've never seen a girl with wings before."

"I'm a Tengu. I probably should have mentioned that...I'm also one of the fastest people here, but I can't go at my top speed without hurting you."

Within a few minutes, you land at the edge of a cliff outside a small Oriental-looking house. As she folds her wings and they seemingly disappear from her back, you look over her shoulder and notice a large, magnificent waterfall with many other bird people flying around, and some blue specks moving around in the river below.

"Uh, you can let go of me now. We're here."

You immediately move your arms back to your sides and ignore the fact that you had been holding onto her for far longer than you should have and follow her inside.

"Sorry for the clutter, but being a one-person newspaper requires a lot of weird things in one place...but I'm sure these don't look so weird to you." Her room is a jumble of various printing equipment, with a computer in one corner. Scattered around the walls are various cameras, ranging from models that haven't been seen for decades to high-end modern models of photography, all of which seem to have been acquired in a similar fashion as the original one she had when you found her.

"Please, sit." She gestures over to a small table with a cup of what appears to be tea on it, and brandishes a notepad and pen.

"Honestly, I'm not sure myself. Last thing I remember is that I was on a train when a woman in purple and white--"

There's a knock at the door, and a small but forceful voice shouting. "Aya, Aya! Let me in. We've gotta talk."

"Ugh, hold on." She gets up and moves over to the door, opening it to another girl with white hair and what appear to be dog ears.

"That shrine maiden from Moriya came down here again and is complaining about your voyeur...ism..." Her eyes slowly find you sitting at the table and she stares at you questioningly, grabbing the hilt of what appears to be a large sword. "Who...is that? What's he doing here?"

"Calm down, Momiji...he's from the outside world. I'm giving him an interview."

"Whatever. Look, if you keep going up there, that shrine maiden is going to cause more trouble than it's worth, and I really don't feel like reporting something that's your fault to Tenma."

"Okay, I'll take care of it...now can you go? You're interrupting something important."

The wolfgirl gives both of you a strange look and turns around to leave. "Make sure you do, I don't enjoy talking to that girl. She's worse than the Hakurei maiden."

As Momiji leaves, Aya closes the door and sits back down at the table. "Sorry about that...now, where were we?" Just as you begin to speak again, another knock is heard.

"Aya, hey Aya! Open up!"

Aya once again gets up, with a visible look of irritation. She fiercely opens the door to another girl; a brunette with pigtails, sporting a similar outfit to Aya's.

"What in the hell do you want, Hatate?"

"I was just passing by--"

"You mean eavesdropping?"

"Yeah, that too...and I heard you have an outsider! I need to talk to him!"

"No way, go find your own. This is my story."

"Oh, come on! Just one question? Please?"

"Go away! You're not taking my story!"

The girl turns around and spreads her wings. "You know, you're gonna regret this. Word travels fast here..."

"Is that a threat, Hatate?"

"No, not a threat...you'll see." With those words, she flies off to another part of the mountain. You start to have second thoughts about agreeing to this, but don't feel like letting Aya down by outright declining to answer her questions.

She lets out a sigh before continuing. "Believe me, they're more trouble than they're worth sometimes. Nice girls, but they get on my nerves. Now, you were going on about how you got here?"

"Oh, right. So this weird woman wearing--" Time stops, and the world goes dark, with the last visible thing that you see being Aya's eyes.

"Nanashin..."

The strange woman from your dream appears before you once again, although she seems to be in a much worse mood than when you first met.

"I hope that you're not going to...expose my deeds to this reporter. I'm afraid...I can't let you do that. You see, there are several...circumstances...that are in place for your continued survival. I have been keeping an eye on you ever since you arrived here, so believe me when I say that I only have the best intentions in mind for you...and spreading word of my existence would only lead to...something most unfortunate. Of course, I cannot stop you from doing anything that you wish to do, but please take this warning to heart."

With these words, she vanishes and you appear once again in the room with your tengu interviewer.

You're genuinely surprised that she didn't see through your blatant lies, but hide this as she begins to speak again.

"So, is drinking a popular thing in the outside world? I'm not a big drinker myself, but I know the onis love alcohol."
