- use better fonts, try to vary in accordance to the original text.
- shape the text similarly with the bubble, align it to the middle.
- as much as possible, try to make the text stay away from the edges of the bubble. OVERLAPPING BUBBLES WITH THE LINES IS THE WORST OFFENSE, but if it is unavoidable, at least use the "stroke" function of Photoshop (if you're using it).
- replace "triple dashes" with one long dash
- bad grammar is worse than Comic Sans

Well, your last edit with Koishi wasn't half bad aside from the non-centered last bubble. Personally, I believe anybody can typeset, but the difficulty lies on perfect leveling and redrawing (also shown on your Koishi edit).

Start from fonts, move to text bubbles and etc. Fonts that use all caps are generally better. Even Western comics use all caps for speech bubbles, it just looks better on the eyes when it comes to comics.

The wording should be placed better, particularly in the first bubble. If it can't fit, there's no shame in lowering the font 1 or two sizes and messing with the facing a little. See how much empty space is left at the bottom of that bubble? You kinda want to make the text match the shape of the bubble for a more clean look.

In any case, the guide I posted is good to get the basics. You don't have to read about redrawing too much if you're using CS5, since I basically use content aware to redraw now. Usually, I don't have to redraw much after running content aware, unless it's a really obnoxious background or something.
