Who would win in a battle of wits: Yukari or Eirin? (Since this is a battle of wits, no powers are allowed.)

In my opinion, ZUN has shown that Yukari is more wiser than Eirin. SSiB could be summed up as Yukari's plan vs Eirin's countermeasures. And as seen in SSiB's ending, Yukari anticipated Eirin's traps and came out the winner.

Eirin is just a human who has lived very long. Yukari on the other hand is a youkai who's capable of solving complex equations that her supercomputer shikigami cant solve. The answer is as clear as night and day.

Impurities are to blame for humans' short lifespans. In order to live longer a human (who became a sage) decided to create a world 'without' impurities on the moon [1]. In order to protect their new found paradise from the people they left behind on Earth, they created youkai to regulate the Earthlings' filthiness [1][2]. The youkai began to terrorize the humans, and thus powerful, heroic humans were sent to exorcise and exterminate them. The off and on battle between humans and youkai continued on until Gensokyo was sealed off from the world (with the advent of the Hakurei Border) [3]. During that time the Lunarians invented a limitless power supply. Yukari thought she could use something like that to improve the living conditions of Gensokyo [4]. It concluded with the First Lunar War.

I'm still not sure who created Gensokyo. The Gensokyo page on the wikia claims it was created by humans. Yet in PMiSS, it states (several times) that Yukari (not only proposed the idea of Gensokyo) but created it herself.

>The project refers to a plan designed and implemented by Yukari in order to restore power to the youkai of Gensokyo, who felt pressured by human expansion.

>Until then Gensokyo was merely an isolated mountain place, but she planned to create the boundary between illusion and reality around Gensokyo, thus logically creating a new world.

>By establishing Gensokyo as an illusionary world, and the outside as the real world, the youkai weakened by the outside world would naturally flock to Gensokyo; this was a truly epochal event.

>It is said that this youkai was one of those who suggested the creation of the Great Barrier and created what is now Gensokyo.

Probably a joint effort. Gensokyo may have been a town that was so separated from society that they still believed wholeheartedly in the youkai and kept to themselves while the rest of the world marched on with progress. Yukari thought "This is a good place to settle" and went there with a bunch of youkai. The humans don't bother them and they don't bother the humans. Thus, "Gensokyo" became a much larger area and the human village a part of it.

At least, this is the theory that makes sense. I just remember that the border was created due to the Dragon about to destroy this happy youkai refuge.

>> No.5371220

>>5371132

500 hundred years ago Yukari created a border of fantasy around Gensokyo. It became a fantasy land where fairies and weak youkai who felt threatened by human expansion could gather. Sort of like a mystical forest from a fairy tale. By that time entry from the outside world and back was easy and common.

Then in 1884 the great border was created sealing Gensokyo off completely. It was supposedly Yukari's plan, but it met with a strong opposition from many youkai. Looks like she took her chance when human priests tried sealing it off by themselves and aided them. Dragon also appeared at that time, but who exactly summoned it is unknown. Whole thing caused some conflicts but Yukari ended up on top. After that entry from the outside became pretty much impossible for most.

Then WWII happened and the large scale impurity caused by atom bombs weakened the border. Now it's possible to cross the great barrier in few places.

>So again, why the hell are people saying that lunarians had any problems with repelling the USA invasion?
In that same chapter it says Reisen is a canon coward, so yeah. Also, we're not saying anything. Kaguya's profile in IN claims the Lunarians were losing to the Americans *at one point. Which is surprising considering the fact that 1) Lunarians had a head-start for their civilization and 2) the Americans had a huge disadvantage in space.

Just the fact that in such a short span of time we humans were able to gap the difference in our military powers supports the claim that the Lunarians are lost without Eirin. America's military might has quadrupled since the 70s. And China's military is going to be unstoppable 50 years from now. If America was to fight against the Lunarians with some help from the UN, the Lunarians would get obliterated in the next Lunar War.

Nobody summoned the Dragon, it just appeared to destroy the land due to human conflict. Yukari and a few of the more ancient youkai promised it that there would be peace and it left. After that the Great Border was created with the Hakurei shrine as the keystone.
