Why was Mokou so whiny during her battle against Reimu? By the end of the fight, Mokou was practically terrified of Reimu. Contrast that with Kaguya's calm response after she was defeated. How embarrassing.

Mokou was an unloved unwanted albino child that would likely have been treated as demon spawn in feudal Japan.
During this tumultuous time of her life she encountered Kaguya, and was set off on a rather emo adventure which left her an immortal, even further alienating her from her family and peers. She couldn't even /wrists like a real emo kid.
She never grew up from there.
She needs a good parental influence to fix it. Kaguya was almost her mommy, maybe she could give her a spanking.

A feasible conclusion.
Mokou was born albino, an ill omen to the superstitious. She became the unwanted daughter of a prestigious clan. She was likely hidden away from public.
Kaguya became an unwanted daughter of a royal family. She fled the moon into exile seeking freedom and ended up starting a chain of events with freed Mokou at the same time.
They share a lot of features. They're both unwanted daughters of the prestigious, but neither will go away.

Actually, the current Mokou is rather happy. She just doesn't appreciate being killed, particularly over and over (which is what occurred in IN's extra; she died after every single spell card capture).

Mokou is actually at a stage where she wants to protect people, and be acknowledged by them. She seems aloof and distant because she still doesn't want to make relations.

VS Kaguya: Reimu and Yukari beat down Kaguya once, and then she revives.. three or four times only? The aim there was to restore the moon.
