Do you prefer loads of slow bullets or few fast bullets? I prefer the latter, because it's more like dodging and less like threading a needle with arrow keys.

Something in between, though if I had to pick from the two, loads of slow, just because it looks awesome.

>> No.5336697

I like fast bullets during stages and lots of slow, pattern based bullets during boss fights.

Mushihimesama has it nailed down.

Fast bullets are good only when you expect them. They're too easy to have something explode into a spray of fast bullets the moment it appears on screen and give you a cheap death.

Slower bullets allow you do do more, like have them home in in a way you can dodge or make you run into them by dodging the wrong way or chasing after an item.

I prefer to be attacked directly with the enemy seeming like it's shooting at me and not just everywhere, so fast bullets would make such a thing unfair.

But you know you want to.

>> No.5336800

I like homing curvy lasers.

>> No.5336817

If I had to pick, fast bullets. A shitload of slow bullets (Sanae Fight in MoF) has too much micro dodging for my taste. I prefer somewhere in between though.

>> No.5336848

Anybody who says they like fast bullets with a low density have never played a real STG before. Touhou is an amazing game because it has slow bullets with high density. Touhou is one of the few danmakus you can beat with skill. Every other game I've played in the genre requires memorization of cheesy sneak attack bullets that are impossible to dodge without memorization. Also, slow bullets with low density are prettier and harder to code.

Few slow bullets, loads of enemies trying to run into me.

>> No.5337122

I prefer anything that isn't too hard.

>> No.5337128

I prefer a mix really

I don't really like it when the entire screen is full of slow bullets though.

>> No.5337187

i prefer shmups with walls in it.
squeezing my ship through the tight asteroid field from Gradius V always gets my dick hard.

>> No.5337197

Slow bullets because it's like navigating a maze and is based more on thought than reflexes.

>> No.5337240

I hate being killed by slow ass bullets

>> No.5337429

I miss STGs that had actual level design, rather than throwing a shit ton of bullets at you in an otherwise empty area.

>> No.5337455

It depends. There has to be a line between enjoyable and pure memorization. I've been playing Futari Ultra and it's evident that the majority of it comes down to preemptively destroying things (memorization) ahead of actual dodging. God Mode is an easier version of Ultra, but due to the slowdown, it's a lot easier. I still prefer it becasue the absurd memorization shouldn't punish the player for not knowing ahead of time.

So I prefer moderately paced bullets, ones seen in EoSD, Dodonpachi and so on. Nothing too fast and nothing too slow. For a good idea of bullets which are too fast, see Raiden IV. For a good idea of bullets that are too slow, see a good majority of Touhou spellcards.

Yeah, when I played Super Mario World there was tons of unfair Bonzai Bill shit shooting out at light-speed and I had to continue a billion times to beat the fucker.
Yeah.

>> No.5338990

I prefer many bullets at moderate to fast speed.
For example Ketsui and Mushihimesama Futari Maniac Mode got it perfect.
I really dislike sniper shots that can kill you out of nowhere.

>> No.5339042

A mixture of both if possible, not at the same time though oh god fuck.

But would prefer slow moving hundreds of bullets.. Makes me feel cooler weaving in and out of a deadly wave of bullets than stepping slightly to the left every so often.
Plus i'm usually too scared to dive through the speeding wave once i've reaches the edge of the stage, so i risk flying behind the enemy/boss.

i don't like programmed bullet patterns, ratchet scrolling or nigh-unkillable screenfilling bosses.
luckily there's plenty of variety in top-down shooting.
