Eh, Zun has increased his graphics and controls as the game goes, so it feels better and better as you get to the newer games...

But some of the classic ones have really good spellcard patterns.

I personally had the most fun with Subterranean Animism though. Shoddy bomb system let it down a bit. People complain about its difficulty.

UFO was fun too. I actually like most of them... they all play very similarly. MoF's scoring system drove me insane though. Died so many times trying to keep my Faith points high.

The fighting games are good too. We've got a soku thread in jp.

My personal favorite is Imperishable Night. It happened to be my first game. Haha, maybe I'm a little nostalgic.

Touhou games are only 'fun', if you like either being competetive, or enjoy a rather extreme challenge. Since I am both, I enjoyed 1-12.5 alot. Although I actually played the shooters for the challenge.
