Which is why being a nice person fails. Not only do you not get anything in return (most people believe you have an ulterior motive behind your niceness) but you also get treated like a carpet, a rug or someone to be used.

No, because then you wouldn't be nice. People'd be nice just for a reward. Being actually nice and doing it because one actually cares about the well-being of someone else without any reward is the real "nice". Having someone be nice back would be the nice reward that was never promised.

Tripfags increase a board's presence. When you eliminate them completely, groupthink dominates and things tend to degenerate into /b/ shit.

I believe that 10% of tripfag posts is a healthy percentage in order to keep an imageboard's ecosystem in balance. Of course, it's really bad when you start to suck their cock in a Cirno-like way, but hating them is just pointless.

Thus the boards turn to shit.

>Most of the time the only reward is the one you make for your own. That sense of self satisfaction that you did right.

Here's the thing though, you're a tripfag. There are always ulterior motives behind "nice" gestures. While I respect what you do here everyday to an extent, I highly doubt you would have kept up with your nice day threads if you weren't a tripfag. By being a tripfag, you have an identity, an alias. I wish I could give you some of the cold numbers from the /a/rchive. In both boards, anonymous owns about 92% of the total posts.
The thing is that many of these anonymous posts are of subpar quality. It's only that you have no way to track them down to a single person. In a way, tripfaggotry only serves to identify anonymous, and if they're inherently bad, then flag them as useless.

>>524188

signed, forced anonmity really is a bad idea when your userbase is like 4chans.

>>524229

I'd like to illustrate this, many years ago I discovered a image board entirely dedicated to the hot glue fetish. Back then it seemed to be filled with both japanese and english speaking posters, yet there was no shitposting or racism everyone was friendly to each other and made efforts to understand each other and contribute to their mutual interest of blowing their hot load. And they were quality contributions, with no dead horse beatings

This is a good example of a community still under the radar. It's simple, a community gets more shit the more popular it gets. The reality behind all of this is the fact that the majority of people have the internet and the majority of people also are not very funny to the kind of people that spend so much time online.

I think the team really doesn't care about poster quality anymore, it's a lost cause. If you want a site to get big you want it to get shit it's as simple as that. Moot seems to really play around with the idea that this site will be profitable one day, personally I think that the dot com bubble will burst again before that happens.

>> No.524289

Agreed. In all honesty I liked 4chan better when it was a SECRET INTERNET CLUB just because the userbase was smaller and in many cases actually contributed towards board quality.

One of the better examples I can think of is SaiGAR. Saigar 2007, despite the spam, was a fun time in which people learned about a bunch of new anime, and was an excellent example of what /a/ could achieve if it put its mind to it. As for 2008, well... that's what a four-fold increase in the number of posters will do to the quality of a board.

And yes, I'm perfectly aware that "board quality" is just a catch-all buzzword that doesn't actually mean anything.
