How much money does ZUN make with Touhou?

Very little. This picture is really inaccurate.

No it's accurate, you just have to remember this is in yen and each of those bundles is like 1$

Do you buy Touhou? Do you think he gets money from the fanworks? It's popular, but that doesn't mean he's loaded with cash.

None. ZUN is fucking poor, he was fired from his job, and the secondaryfags on here will never buy his games. Everyone on /jp/ is a secondary fan. Deal with it.

>I don't know how Japanese money works

He probably makes a decent amount from game sales, but I'm not sure about other fan works or licenses. Presumably they have to pay royalties to him for using his characters, or they just give him a portion of whatever they make out of respect.

Maybe he should spend less money on beer? Touhou isn't a living, but it helps. It's the equivalent of a guy getting a position as an IT guy at a large company but running his own small business building computers on the side. He might get stuff, but he still needs a steady job.

At Reitaisai he sold 10k copies of Double Spoiler for 1000 yen apiece. He can't be losing more than a small fraction of that in CD pressing costs, so that's like a year's good salary from that one game. Unless there's some money hole that I'm not accounting for here.

Little do we know that Zun is using his money for research and development of a beer like no other. A beer that will immortalize Zun not as the creator of touhou, but as the creator of the best beer ever will be, never will be, and possibly will be.

Assuming these figures are right, and the cost of the CDs cost about 500 yen a piece to produce (which doesn't seem right) then he'd make some 5,000,000 yen. If the CDs cost more, or he sold less, or charged less, he can't be that rich.

The figurine business probably draws some cash

Two professional fig companies make Touhou models, i'm fairly sure they would have a contract or deal with him due to it being commercial, which he doesn't really want Touhou to become generally.

Touhou has gone much more mainstream in the last couple years, and you'll find a shelf of Touhou games and other products, if not an entire aisle, in pretty much any major anime goods store. When I last checked the local Gamers they had all the Windows games for around ¥1500 apiece. If ZUN is selling even a mere one game per store per week, that's a pretty healthy income just right there. And that completely ignores all the sales from Comiket, as well as royalties for other official ZUN material like the various books.

He obviously has to deal with all the usual business expenses the self-employed have, but I suspect he makes a very comfortable living for himself while working entirely at his own discretion, doing what he enjoys, and being a minor celebrity. Not a bad deal for an alcoholic solo game designer.
