So if Satori reads mind, how does she do it? How doez she filter through the 10~20 different threads of mental dialogue and images flowing all at once as a person thinks of many things that they are used to thinking of to figure out which one is most relevent to the conversation at hand? For that matter, is her mind multithreaded as well, allowing her to read as many mental threads as a human or youkai has? Because if so, how much space is left for her own thinking? If a person has 20 threads running and she only has a capacity of 30, does she break down if what she needs to think exceeds her capacity? How does her brain handle that? You'd think there would be a way for her to sift through garbage, but is that so? I mean, what if she encounters more than one person? How many threads can she read at once?
Help?

If she can hear extra convoersations in her head, can she filter them out? Does she have to listen in, or is it in her head? What is she based off of? If we knew what she was based off of, we might have a better baseline to compare it to. Are there any creatures in the real world that can read minds, or is this relegated purely to the realm of fantasy? Because such a power would be bad, especially if humans had it, but not youkai. Why does a youkai get this power, and not, say, Marisa? Marisa could steal it. But she could also read Marisa's mind and she her wanting to steal it, and thus, prevent it. Couldn't Yukari go in and take it? But Yukari could just gap mind reading into her head. Would that kill her if she opened a gap in her head?

>If she can hear extra convoersations in her head, can she filter them out?
You're a normal human, and if you're in a crowd full of people, you can filter out everyone and listen to just one set of people. Amazing, isn't it?

>Does she have to listen in, or is it in her head?
Probably a mix of both. She can hear a bit normally and can focus on someone in particular.

>What is she based off of?
The Satori Youkai.

>Are there any creatures in the real world that can read minds, or is this relegated purely to the realm of fantasy?
No, idiot.

>Why does a youkai get this power, and not, say, Marisa?
Youkai have special powers. Humans generally don't.

>Marisa could steal it.
No, she couldn't. She steals spells, not innate powers.

>Couldn't Yukari go in and take it?
She wouldn't "take" it, she'd use her border powers in some fashion to emulate it on her own.

>But Yukari could just gap mind reading into her head.
It doesn't work like that.

>Would that kill her if she opened a gap in her head?
Idiot.

>> No.5019530

But if Yukari opened a gap in her head, some of the black could get out. And we don't know what the gap is comprimised of. Therefore, if she opens a gap there, it could kill her, not to mention ribbions in her brain would be a bad thing to say the least. Could she even be awake during it? If not, how would that work? Could she transfer her power to Reimu and have her do it, set an alarm or something?

Actually, "the power to read minds" translates more into hyper-empathy.

She can tell how you're feeling very, very easily. She doesn't have to read the mood of a situation, she knows how scared/happy/etc. you are at any given moment.

The "mind reading" is not as deep as you think it might be. Satori can only read surface thoughts... the most obvious and visible ones in your mind. True, you think about a lot at any given moment, but Satori only sees the tip of the iceberg.

Koishi, on the other hand, is unable to feel any emotions, including her own, and she can't read surface thoughts. Instead, she's able to see the bottom of the stack... your subconscious. She can also play with it, changing even your base motives, fears and hopes.

Human minds are nothing like computers; the two things are good at exactly the opposite things. Saying a mind is multithreaded is an understatement because there are literally millions of things going on in your brain at one time.

No, you don't. However, Koishi also had normal emotions way back, and she has a good sister who likely gave her a good moral background.

Amoral behavior isn't 100% related to psychopathy, it's just one of those things that tends to crop up if you've been that way since birth.

Of course, this ignores the fact that I wasn't making a hard comparison between Koishi and psychopaths; I said "kind of like".
