The quality varies throughout.

Chapter 1 starts out pretty crappy, but it takes a huge jump in quality after the band starts forming (the OP image is the exact moment where the game went from boring to entertaining for me).

Chapter 2 is great slice of life up until the path split, then it varies by heroine.

Kirari - Nonsensical possession story that isn't very good, but it has the best concert scene in the game and an amazing last third of the story after the tour is over. Has two endings. The "true" ending requires all other endings to be obtained first. The "normal" ending is the best part of the entire game.

Chie - Bland as hell. There's one cool scene where they basically go to an Amish enclave and some funny stuff happens, but other than that nothing.

Sarina - Good, but nothing that really sets it apart from everything else out there.

I preferred the Normal end because it was semi-ambiguous whether or not Shika and Kirari got back together. The little sister teases Shika about Kirari and Shika says that he occasionally practices bass with Kirari, but when they actually encounter each other we're given barely any indication of affection between the two of them. I hate shit like that.

Is this addressed at all in the fan-disc that comes out next week or in the audio dramas that I can't understand because I don't speak moon?

Anyone else pick Kirari first simply because of the fact that she was dropping hints fucking everywhere?

Chie wasn't so bad. Childhood friends of the opposite gender actually tend to joke around like that, so it's not wrong to dismiss the hints she gives because she could genuinely just teasing to play around. My friend was like that too, joking about sleeping together and stuff, but they don't actually mean it.

Kirari on the other hand was freaking asking for it, especially after the scene where they caught the couple doing it in that classroom and she said she wanted to try it. I felt like it'd be annoying to obliviously pass her advances, even though I was planning on going Sarina at first.

Don't mind him. I don't really know what /jp/ defines as "shit drama" anymore. The drama comes from very possible real life situations and I think does them fairly well. It's not like Clannad where "MY WAIFU AND DAUGHTER ARE DYING FROM MAGICAL AIDS, HELP ME ORBS OF LIGHT".

Still got to play Kirari's true end, but for me the drama in Kira Kira felt much less forced. Especially true for Kirari's normal end, her death was dealt with pretty quickly, without unnecessary prolonging the drama. Not to mention, it was something that COULD be avoided if only Shikanosuke was less of a failure, not a magical/forced event. And then we get the timeskip after which the route focuses purely on Shikanosuke dealing with his feelings and sorting out his life. I hate dying girls in VNs as a rule, but here it felt like it was actually a part of the story, and not an end unto itself.
Not that I dislike Clannad, mind you.

I mean her getting herself killed by running into a burning house to save a fucking microphone. One of the stupidest deaths I've seen in a long time and it made it impossible to take the rest of the route seriously (not that it was any good anyways).

>> No.4977846

>>4977679
Only, well, it was Kirari. She wasn't what you'd call a rational character ever since the beginning, and doing something like that certainly fit her personality. Not to mention the microphone was really fucking important to her. So far her circumstances always held her back, but the band and the trip was something good that happened despite her family situation. And the microphone was a symbol of that. If she lost it BECAUSE of her family, I think she'd lose any hope of ever being happy(or maybe, she'd finally start to hate her family), and that's why she went back for it.
Also, wasn't that actually mentioned in the text? I'm not sure, but I think Shikanosuke actually told her before she died that the mic was just a thing that could be replaced, and that what she did was stupid. Or maybe it was in introspection or while talking with another character, I don't remember but I think it was there.
>>4977664
