So /jp/,
I finally decided to read through PMiSS, since everyone here quotes from it like Scripture, and..

>She can erase history when human, and when she becomes a hakutaku, she can create history as well.
>The history of Gensokyo is that which is created by her.
>Speaking of history, things do not become history merely by happening.
>Things do not become history unless they are made history by someone's hands.
>She can fabricate history that didn't happen, or conversely, erase from history incidents which actually did happen.
>History is reality, seen from a single point of view.

....!?
What the fuck?? Are guys seriously using this as a genuine source of information? I've read essays by Sartre that were more lucid than this. It sounds like ZUN downed a few before working on each character and just made shit up as he went along.

That's exactly what happened.

well I'd always imagined Keine's power would be pretty difficult to explain. It's hard to make something like "eating history" make sense.

okay, okay I guess I had that coming.
But exactly how much of this is supposed to be serious? If not for the parts where it doesn't make sense, then at least considering it goes against the things we knew about characters previously?

Alice being a former human?
Sakuya being a former Vampire Hunter?
Tewi being older than time?

I love you.

It's not. It's a fucking SHOOTAN GAEM.

Now shut up and fap to Alice's tears.

Most of those ideas came from doujins.

no, actually all of them are from PMiSS.
Although the Sakuya thing seemed to just be a rumor Akyu liked.

Alice used to be a former EX boss. She just went tame after a love sign master spark penetrated her.
Tewi is a demon rabbit of fortune that became a spirit from just living a long time.
Sakuya is actually a lunarian.

AKA Keine can only transform history related to her?

She just has to know the history to fuck with it.

>> No.480364

PMiSS was written in Akyu's point of view so not everything is accurate.

She thought Eirin and Kaguya were humans and Reisen was a youkai rabbit.

I think it was mentioned somewhere where Alice states she was always a magician youkai like Patchy.

Based on what happens in IN, Keine's "erasure of history," Keine's ability does not truly remove the Human Village from existence, but merely from subjective existences. Perhaps this is similar to Shiki's Eyes of Death perception on a backwards level: because the Human Village "does not exist anymore," it can no longer be accessed to other people, who entirely bypass explanation of its existence. Some sort of in-series retcon machine. Likewise, the Human Village is mostly forgotten by everyone else but the strongest individuals.

The "creation of history" sounds cheap and complicated and has never been demonstrated. I'd imagine, though, that what we'd be looking at is a Death Note-like experience where Keine can make a given person or event occur as long as it logically follows. In other words, scripting reality.

How this applies to "history needing to be recorded" is an entirely different argument that no fan has even started tackling yet.

So, in theory, Keine could have already written the history of Gensokyo, not down to every detail and event, but enough that it will end-up a certain stable way. AND the vehicle of that consistent stability - history becoming reality - could be a certain undefeated shrine maiden?

Now that would DEFINITELY be hax ...

From Flandre's PMiSS:

>Her method of destroying things so effortlessly involves pouring her power into the "eyes" of any material where its tension is the highest.
>She can use her ability to cause these "eyes" to move into the palm of her hand.
>In other words, by crushing the "eye" held within her hand(*2), she causes things to break.
>It's a truly frightening ability with no real weaknesses.

Huh, and here I thought she just blew shit up.

In my mind, Keine has always been the most hax touhou of them all.

She's just a nice character that doesn't make it her hobby to rape Gensokyo for fun.

That or History and time is so complicated that messing with it would just be a pain. Let's say Keine wiped out Marisa. Every time x person met Marisa, nothing happened, that changed ideas, moods, etc, completely. My guess is if Keine can't win normally and she HAS to, she'll probably resort to it. But that's just my take on it.

>> No.480856

What if she wiped out Yukari?
Gensokyo's History would go to hell.

Has to to preserve Gensokyo or her life? I think she's the type to die rather than fuck up history too badly and possibly erase her friends.

>> No.480901

>>480887
Then the ability she is given is rarely used. Keine has a very strong ability, but i'm sure ZUN gave her enough wit to understand that even the slightest alteration of history could warp what happens now. If you want to go into an extremist point of view, Keine might not even be able to erase history, because if it was erased, and she forgot about it, how would she know that she had to erase it in the first place, therefore it wouldn't happen because she wouldn't erase it.

Brick shitting stuff.

>> No.480906

>>480901
Also, then again, ZUN is a god damn drunk, so it's not like he puts this into consideration.

>> No.480915

Exactly. If this were any other character, the chance is always there, even if this becomes a subconscious flinch. It being Keine and Keine being a hakutaku on the side, that makes it beyond the scope of her character.

>> No.480927

>>480901

Well, I think erasing history is different from, say, going back in time and killing yourself before you can build your time machine. Erasing all of time just wipes everything clean, I would imagine, or the universe starts over with another Big Bang or something.
