Hey guy, I know you're not paying attention at the moment, but I had a question for you. I notice in your replays that you continue to use Sky Dragon Kick, even though you basically never manage to get it to level 4. Have you considered using Earth Dragon Wave instead? It provides good ground pressure, is still usable in a dial A + special move combo, and can help with your approach. The only real downside is you won't get those fabulous counter hit Sky Dragon Kick hits that let you rack up 2.5-3k damage, but honestly those seem to be a rarity from your replays. Earth Dragon Wave doesn't require the heavy skillcard investment that Sky Dragon Kick does, which, upon looking at your spellcard-heavy deck, may make it prudent to look into

Good games Bob! I really don't have an answer to Okuu. Her anti-air makes it impossible for me to approach, wakeup high priority poke means I can't okizeme, and startup graze 66B then I don't know how to pressure. In any case, I got schooled with the Hisouten characters but I still had fun nonetheless.

>> No.4792629

>>4792593
Not who you were playing against, but just some playing tips based on what you've said you're having issues with...

>Her anti-air makes it impossible for me to approach
Don't fly so much, try approaching by land. Okuu 3A is air-unblockable, so getting anywhere near it while airborne is very dangerous. Alternatively, stop short and launch some projectiles instead of going for the j.5A. 3A has such a huge animation there's no way your opponent will be able to recover in time to block/graze them.

>wakeup high priority poke means I can't okizeme
Depending on who you're playing, you can try a few different things. Reimu/Reisen/Marisa/Tenshi j.2B, Iku Alt 214B/C, Komachi 5C are all slow enough that if you launch them after scoring a knockdown or a short while afterwards your opponent will be forced to either graze or block.

>startup graze 66B then I don't know how to pressure
The answer to this is also highly dependent on who you're playing. Iku 6C can punish a blocked Okuu 66B if I recall correctly, but the number of bullets that travels that quickly is fairly limited. Your best option is to hit them while they're grazing with a melee attack. 66B has a huge wind-up giving you plenty of time to react. If you're stuck in an attack animation when the opponent goes for 66B, e.g. you just launched Iku 5C, cancel into a melee special attack like Iku 236B/C or 623C. Obviously this is not always an option.

I have an Earth Dragon Wave deck. It is a decent move, though it takes a little while for your orbs to regenerate after you use it. I think that part of me still uses SDK because it's what I'm most comfortable with.

Also, the deck I was using for most of those matches was still an experimental deck, with 12 skill cards and 8 spell cards. More skill-heavy than it was spell-heavy (if anything, I'd probably consider tossing the SLS upgrades for EDW and the SDK cards for some hangeki and bomb cards).

GGs Guy

Haven't lost a beat since last time! I'm liking that 22C crossup you've got with Marisa, may have to steal it. Also noticed not too many j.2A crossup with Chi-Ling this time. Rusty, too? Meanwhile, that's the 2nd best impression of a Shy Patchi I've seen in a while. Thanks for wetting my UNL palete, now back to Bayonetta.

>> No.4801564

Yeah, I'm still rusty. Things just weren't flowing properly with Meiling, so I wasn't gonna try to force it.

The 22C cross-up is fun, as long as the opponent doesn't decide to graze on wake-up, haha.

Good games Akagi, I was beginning to think that no one was going to join. I usually don't play that defensively but your Aya gave me no room to play any other way. Luckily, Aya is pretty bad at draining orbs so I could just sit back and block. Your spacing could use some work. I noticed that when I was stuck in the corner I could hit you out of whatever you were doing with a 2a or 2c at the right distance and you always ran headfirst into my j6a in the air. Sometimes it's better to try and pressure from midscreen while looking for a chance to get in rather than rushing down the whole time. Also, don't graze on wakeup so much, I got you far too many times while you were jumping up off the ground. And don't forget to watch your spirit orbs, especially when your opponent has Royal Flare out.

Oh no, it's not that. It's more like I just didn't feel like doing the Meiling/Youmu match-up, hahaha. Also, I don't think it's that you were doing poorly against Marisa, it's more that all of your mistakes added up in those warm-up matches, making it seem like Marisa was hard for you. In reality, it was you air-teching into punishment, being a little too mash-happy, and allowing me to hop out of pressure that made it turn out that way.

I'm sure if I would've picked Marisa after you got done facing my Alice or Reisen you would've been able to do much better.

The first thing (of course easier said than done) is not to jump on j6A's. This thing, given its momentum, almost has the range of a projectile, but you're guaranteed to eat 2k+ if you dash on it, say, after and airtech.
I used j8A a lot too, it's punishable on whiff until Suwako reaches the ground, to try to bait it and dodge it. Again, it may not be easy given its huge damage box.

If nothing else, learning some simple bread and butters for the characters you play is a good start. After that, you can start mixing it up with the fighters you're more comfortable with. A lot of combos are incredibly easy to execute.

Samefag from the post you quoted. Sometimes, yes. I'm considering dropping Seeker Wire in favor of Suika gourds. Seeker Wire used to be very much worth it in 1.03 where it whacked blockers for a whopping 1 orb per strike, which could lead to some very easy guard breaks. Now that it's been nerfed to merely .5 orbs on block, I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it. My instinct tells me no, but I still have a hard time giving it up

Another thing I'm considering is removing the Control Rods in favor of Patchouli's spellbooks. I've been trying some of those on Meiling lately, and I'll be damned if 4 spellbooks in a skillcard focused deck doesn't lead to some of the most powerful pressure you've ever seen. I'm thinking they would be especially effective on a Alice, since she relies so much on canceling the lag time of doll throws with special moves

Ggs. God I have no idea how to approach this matchup. It's like Alice is missing some moves to deal with Iku.
Random notes:
Iku's hibox is not as fat as she looks, a 6a will often just whiff on her when she tries to jump out
She does a lot of damage, and can guard crush pretty well. Her spellcards are great.
I can't graze her lightning (6c?) on reaction

Anybody have tips on how to deal with her?

>> No.4831365

>>4831246
Alice has some pretty bad matchups and Iku is one of them. You have to play really consistent and use every bit of your pressure to keep her down.
Iku is easier to keep down because of her slow flight, slow melee, reactable ground tech, big hitbox and no DP. Good reason to use BE though.
And forget about defensive 6A or anti air 3A as Alice, as those get beat by J2A and J2A most of the time. If the Iku uses 6C all the time, you should have no problem to set up a few dolls.
If you manage to block most of her mixups correctly, graze out of 5C loops on reaction and don't fall for obvious graze traps all the time you shouldn't get crushed too often. If you can't do that, go the safe way and use BE yourself.(and get tagged by J6A right after it)

Hey Anon-kun. Alice main here. I tried to illustrate some tips on good doll placement, because a BIG part of an Iku matchup, and something I notice a lot of Alice player's overlooking, is the huge importance of setting up your dolls correctly. 22BC Doll Activation is one of your most powerful tools for covering Alice's awkward melee angles, and in no other matchup is it nearly as apparent how important good doll placement is than in Iku vs Alice

Hopefully this will help you with your matchup issues. Good luck

Yeah, after 1.10, Seeker Wire is really of questionable use. Even in my skill card heavy deck, I find myself leaving Seeker Wire unused more and more often because Doll Activation simply gives better oki, coverage for Alice, and usually at least AS good damage, if not better

Seeker Wire's one real boon was how much orb damage it did, while still being very usable in combos. Unfortunately, it has no real use as oki, and given how hard it can be to get more than two shots on an enemy, its damage is questionable as well. The nerfed orb damage has made it so I really only keep using it out of habit

Also, if you don't have room for a lot of skillcards in your deck, don't be afraid to ignore placing Doll Activation skillcards altogether. One of Doll Activation's biggest boons is that it's one of those precious "good enough at level 0" skills that make it easy to build a system or spell card heavy deck, or even a skill card heavy deck while still retaining room for system or spell cards thanks to the lack of space taken

Although it's worth baring in mind that Level 4 Doll Activation hits like a truck and offers the best goddamned oki you will ever get out of a character, period

God, why do I still try to use Seeker Wire ;_;
