Your japan learning status? 2 semesters almost cleared here. 2 more will be cleared over the summer. I can't wait until I can read untranslated porn doushinji.

>> No.464849

lol what school are you going to?

>> No.464859

im in my second semester, but i took 4 years of it in highschool, though that only really helped with my kanji.

>> No.464860

Haven't even begun, don't intend to. I can speak fluent English and German, and conversational Esperanto. Three's my limit.

>> No.464862

>I can't wait until I can read untranslated porn doushinji.

You mostly can already. Its all n n ha haaa HUEEE anyways.

>> No.464877

>>464860
esperanto? That seems relatively useless to me

as for me, i'm the exact same as OP

>> No.464894

4 semesters for doujins? Don't think so. Unless you're studying a shitload of kanji by yourself.

This is my 10th year of Japanese. Several of those were taken during elementary school so actual progress is hard to compare.

>> No.464902

did first year intensive, currently finishing second year, and will be taking third year intensive over summer if i can afford it.

intensive summer classes are the best. you will have lots of fun, OP

>> No.464908

>>464894
Of course I will go beyond that. This is just the immediate future.

>> No.464910

>>464902
tell me more, i'm taking summer classes and i'm a little apprehensive about it

>> No.464916

>>464910
summer classes make you work your butt off, for some its more focused, for others its too much work

>> No.464922

>>464916
1000 kanji in 10 weeks (along with vocab/grammar and everything)

20 kanji a day. That's like 7 times more than we learn now =/

>> No.464928

>>464922
...It's worth it. When I think about all the porn I will be able to read that much sooner...it's worth it.

>> No.464940

>>464910

its incredible how fast you learn. there's a lot thrown at you, but as long as you keep up with the work, you'll be fine. if you skip even a few days or dont do the homework, you're fucked. just keep up and its fine.

the only real disadvantages are that the faster you learn, the faster you forget. so its even more important than usual to keep reviewing. also, you'll learn less vocab.

>> No.464948

I have 1 week left till finals at university in my 2nd semester 2nd year. Next year I'll be attending 3rd year 1st semester

>> No.464956

I'm around 200 hours and 400 kanji. I can read manga but still rely heavily on furigana.

>> No.464957

so everyone who's taking summer classes this coming summer, what school you at?

>> No.464959

>>464916
1000 kanji in 10 weeks, you're either lying or stupid. If you're not lying you'll get no retention of the kanji you "learn" 6 weeks later you won't remember any of them

>> No.464970

>>464959
i think you missed your mark, i didn't mention 1000 kanji in 10 weeks. I can take math and science classes over summer, but ide kill myself if i tried to take Jappo over summer.

>> No.464972

>>464959
>Further practice in speaking, reading, and writing. Approximately 500 more kanji introduced. Conducted in Japanese. Eight hours weekly. Prereq> E Asian 320 or satisfactory placement test scores, & Grad st

course description for the 3rd semester (first semester 2nd year). Says similar things for 4th semester.

I'm not lying :P

>> No.464982

>>464970
sorry, what the hell is
>>464922
talking about then?

>> No.464986

Got a good command of Hiragana and kind of memorized Katakana (just need more drilling). Woot.

As for summer, I'm going to take a grade 12 biology course with 16/17 years old high school lolis (legal in Canada) in preparation of joining nursing program in September.

Shit yeah.

1000 Kanji in 10 weeks is hardly impressive with the right method.

>> No.464996

>>464991
i'd love to know your method then, if you say it's hardly impressive.

inb4heisig

>> No.465009

>>464996
Heisig.
Faggot.

>> No.465012

>>464991
lol, bullshit.

>> No.465025

>>465009
defeats the purpose

you see, i'm in a class. We have a set of kanji we have to learn. I can't just take my own order (heisig). I've got quizzes and reading comprehensions and everything to do.

>> No.467332

>>465025
How?
You could just do Heisig on the side. If you spend 2 hours a day it will only take you 3-4 months to go through the whole book. After that you'd ace the class easily.

>> No.467752

>>467332

no because Heisig only teaches meanings of individual kanji. it's not a bad method, but you'd have to go through the second volume as well as study as study a shitload of compounds. But hey, you'd know the kanji for some random trees you don't even know in English and other useless crap...

>> No.467783

>>467752

So just look up the meanings of the kanji as go you along

durhur

>> No.467801

>>467783

you mean readings durhur

also you obviously don't know the eisig method

its a fine method if you are starting from scratch but if you are already learning in a structured environment i'd just chug along

>> No.467810

>>467801

Yeah, I meant reading.

I'm using Heisig, and it's working perfectly. I've always used little tips like he does for the entirety of my life, so I have problem remembering everything.

But hey, continue your old method while I'm chilling at 2ch and reading Saya no Uta.

>> No.467825

>>467810

i'm not saying it's a bad method if you are learning from the beginning but if you already have memorized a large amount of kanji you have to a do a lot of backtracking. i can read novels in japanese and never used heisig. the second volume is a good reference for learning the readings of some kanji, but the best way to learn kanji is by reading books.

have fun on 2ch and your leet jap skills brah.
