would you happen to know exactly how the refounding of the windows product line on NT from DOS affected windows programming, such that if there was a book that predated it, but was the only coverage of its area in wingramming that could be found on the internet for free, it could be determined whether its descriptions of its essentials are still correct enough for the book to be useful or that it's just totally outdated?

They are called OS-tans and they are very cute, to the point where Microsoft has a few official ones.
You know how people turned military boats into women on propaganda posters and such? It's the same kind of phenomenon, but instead for the internet age and as far as I know the rebirth of the phenomenon.

I think a proper OS-tan design really needs to incorporate elements of the OS into the design. While the official Microsoft ones aren't as good as the originals in my opinion they also at least try to reflect aspects of the OS, if only the color scheme.
I think a good example of how they incorporated aspects of the OS into the designs is for example with stuff like breast size correlating to memory requirements.
Another good example is 95-tan's design incorporating one of its standard wallpapers, hana256.bmp, into her outfit. Or ME being associated with a leek due to a common association with a program that was also associated with it.
They were also made with the trend at the time of being essentially "maids" that were assisting the master (user) and which helped kind of shape what they'd be designed as.
The (Arch?) Linux design here feels kind of hollow in comparison, I can't really tell what makes it Arch and the random Pacman (a namco arcade character from the 80s) added also kind of detracts from its identity.

I remember having Windows 8.1 at one point, it was alright, but it feels like they were too quick with going over to 10. Instead 10 is just filled with bloat unless you run a bunch of debloat on IoT LTSC...
