tl;dr Mizuchi was a previous miko who died due to food poisoning at her most beloved restaurant, swearing to take vengeance upon Gensokyo's restaurants for this crime. In reality a bitter former employee who was fired caused the food poisoning to tarnish the public image of the restaurant. They kill him in the end after he becomes a food youkai.

The Genbu Ravine kappa secretly have a tunnel to the Outside World through the barrier which they have used to steal books. Mamizou explicitly came from the Outside World, as did the hobgoblins, and the zasshiki-warashi were known to have all left en masse at one point and then come back shortly after. It is possible for youkai to survive in the outside world, but it is more difficult than living in Gensokyo or the otherworlds due to scientific innovations effectively explaining away natural phenomena that youkai depend on to inspire faith. Even then, it's usually possible for smaller populations of youkai to survive based on fad beliefs and urban legends propagating faith and fear of the unknown.

Ghosts, spirits, gods and whatnot all survive in the outside world too, considering a lot of modern urban legends being spirits like Hachisaku-sama or Hanako the Bathroom Ghost or whatever.

Entering the Hakurei Barrier is really fucking weird. Instead of pushing you out and being some sort of force field that makes Gensokyo invisible or whatever, you'll basically always end up where you started if you ever hit the barrier, with Gensokyo itself being a separate instance of its modern-day equivalent with a bunch of random shit popping into Gensokyo and altering its geography. You can still actually visit the Hakurei Shrine in the real world which connects to the Gensokyo Hakurei Shrine, but it's largely abandoned, overtaken by nature, but for some reason someone still leaves offerings at it. Whether the Outside World Hakurei Shrine has a Hakurei miko doing what little she can to take care of it or if it's just Yukari, no one knows. The only entrances/exits are various holes in the barrier (past the fuck-huge cave system at the bottom of the impossibly deep Misty Lake which that one sea lion or seal or whatever used that the kappa made money off of, Genbu Ravine, possibly inside Youkai Mountain, the Hakurei Shrine, etc.).

Now that I think about it, if the Miyadeguchi family were a servant family to the Hakurei Shrine, then the Hakurei Clan really were originally a noble family within pre-Gensokyo. Wonder if that means the Hieda were another vassal clan to the Hakurei before the Hakurei all vanished? There doesn't seem to be a large aristocratic circle within Gensokyo, so it wouldn't surprise me if youkai hunting seriously took its toll on the human population before the erection of the Hakurei Barrier and the rule of the youkai sages.

There actually is one in the Human Village, but they aren't very significant and were only mentioned in Keine's entry in Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, sorta. Although, it's less about killing youkai as it is learning the truth about Gensokyo, the origins of its people, and understanding the nature of youkai. Ironically, knowing more about youkai effectively translates to understanding better ways of warding off and killing them. Understanding the history of the humans of Gensokyo as youkai hunters also does the same. Realizing the truth of Gensokyo usually drives people to become depressed or go crazy and try to take advantage of the system by becoming youkai themselves. A lot of the members of the secret society literally die, so it's strongly implied that villagers to dig too deeply makes them enemies of Gensokyo, I think.

Yuyuko doubts the barrier was created by Yukari, and although the Gensokyo Chronicles is unreliable, not everything Akyuu has said is false. Arguably, the Gensokyo Chronicles should be accurate in regards to the human history of Gensokyo since the Children of Miare would have ready and immediate access to human sources and corroborating details, artifacts, etc. The same cannot be said for the youkai history of Gensokyo.

The brave humans who settled into Gensokyo came to keep watch over the youkai, not to make room for humanity. Look at the reasons why Reimu exterminates youkai (beat the shit out of) vs exterminating youkai (murdering the shit out of them). She freely does the former, but has strong reservations about the latter. She says she doesn't mind needless killing, but reducing the youkai population is never her goal. Villagers who turn into youkai can be considered traitors to this mission or akin to parasites, as a lot of the intention behind real youkai extermination lies in maintaining the balance of Gensokyo. Human-centric sentiment (as in "Gensokyo belongs to humanity, we need to kill all youkai to keep us safe!") therefore is the most dangerous belief in Gensokyo, as it denies the current paradigm. I think it's the opposite, she should have been the focus, they started dropping shady hints about her like her messing with Reimu and Marisa memories, hiding her connection with Suika and those shady acts of her are just dropped and forgotten because it's yet another Mamizou and Aya being shady manga and Miyoi's sole purpose was to have a place for these characters (and suika) to meet.
Did she also lie about being a zashiki-warashi or is she actually one? I remember thinking she bullshiting from day one and thought she was Suika's sake bug, and I'm not quite sure if I made up the fact she was lying or not.
On the other hand, CDS may be Satori's manga and she might be constantly jobbing, but the focus is solely on Mizuchi and her hijinks, so it feels like it's actually going somewhere. Her connection to the Hakurei family has really renewed my interest in it, and considering it's going to go off on that, it's not about to go off topic about smoke or honey shenanigans.
There were hints of a Marisa character arc when she was disappointed she couldn't tell the gourd was just a normal one, but that's already gone.
