This is the point where our world starts to overlap with that of the Touhou lore.
They have already developed a space shuttle for domestic tourism, and with them sending the remains to the moon, the Lunarians will react by shrinking back, sending in the bnnuy to tell the humans to stop our to cooperate, fail miserably, start a "war" with humanity while Reisen gets a message about the upcoming war and gets requested to join them in the final push, before the moon that we know and the true moon become split from each other in order for them to survive. Remember that we are technically in the "future" of the Touhou series, and Maribel and Renko should be making their own trip at some point in the next few years.
Nuclear war, the complete separation of science and illusion, people living in the pods and eating the bugs, little to no vegetation being left, the "beautification project", and then magic being the only thing left to prove after the GUT is completed within the next ten years.

The silver lining is, if the cards are played right, we may be able to follow two college girls into fantasy before the shrine is forgotten entirely and the last lifeline between their world and ours is severed for good after they go full isolationism.
