They don't seem to have much problems usually unless it's finding Eientei, although it should be technically easier to find it from above since it's not completely covered by bamboo.
In the manga Undonge uses her abilities to make it even harder to escape for Tewi, so my other guess is that flying is harder than walking and thus most 2hus just walk unless it's really necessary.
Alternatively considering >>45653212 the bamboos feed of magical energy and if someone starts floating up they consume the residual flight magic to grow as you rise, many get a bamboo ceiling closing right above them but others that try to go fast or climb and then fly get impaled by the fast growing bamboos. Once dead the fresh corpse gets assimilated by the bamboos. One of the newhus is gonna be an alraune born from one of those corpses somehow, I feel it in my... huh liver.
