44749791 No.44749791 [Reply] [Original]

Tired after a long day, she said she would like to feel someone with her when she went to sleep, and you were happy to indulge her.
Yukari nestles you in her bosom as she strokes your hair, and draws you close to her with her other arm. You cling to her, lulled by the sound of her heart, while you lose yourself within her embrace.
Just before your already sparse thoughts give way to a dream, she lowers her head and you hear her whisper into your ear, "I love you, Anon," followed by the warm feeling of her lips on your forehead. They probably left a red mark where they touched you.

Though their relationship may be close, and they all are one family, I think Yukari probably sleeps alone most of the time. She could be too shy to ask them herself, and Ran and Chen probably think Yukari would not accept, so neither attempts anything.
>>44750731
A part of me wants to say to count me in, but another wonders whether that would be a sign of an unhealthy relationship. Yukari is strong and powerful, but she can also get tired, and likely needs to be taken care of from time to time. A relationship where she is always a master or a dominant partner would not give her a break from this, so I think it is nicer to have one where you and her are equals, and she can call you Anon dearest as YOU hold her in your comforting arms.

Don't get me wrong, imagining them is lovely, and I gladly welcome more ideas, but sometimes these thoughts feel more distant than I would like.
But, continuing with that, after getting home, I can see taking Yukari's hand as she grabs onto one's arm, and going to the kitchen with her to help her with cooking. Sharing such activities, even if mundane, would be wonderful by her side.
Depending on whether one is in the Yakumo residence or somewhere else, Chen and Ran could also be there.

You know, I hadn't thought of it that way. I admit I sometimes feel bad because I feel my imagination isn't good enough, that I can not see her or others I love as much as I could, but I feel encouraged by your words, and optimistic that it can still improve. Even if I can only have few thoughts of her now, I think it is those few that bind us closer together, in a way. Indeed, the more I think of it, the less distant she and the rest of Gensokyo will become. Moreover, I think this applies to all other Anons. They, too, can grow closer to it, even if the bond is weak at first.
>Cooking, sharing meals, laying back holding each other and having long discussions deep into the night. All the cornerstones of a nice loving relationship with yukain.
This does sound like a dream life. There is no need for anything extravagant (which still can happen, but that is not the point), but for peace, love and stability that can make a fun and fulfilling life.

Just today, I was also thinking travelling with her would be fun. Yukari likes trains, of course, so I am sure she would love the idea of taking one for a trip, or perhaps just to admire the scenery and see where it takes her. Accompanying her in this would be fun.
>>44751173

Though I think I should say: I don't think there is such a thing as "crafting the perfect Yukari." She is not some sort of doll for me to toy with, dress and craft to my liking. She is a person I can get to know more of, one that already exists. One whom I am slowly finding.

Several counts of abduction, aiding and abetting murders, destruction of government property, (how many millions of yen have been spent replacing the trains she uses as weapons?) unlawful monitoring, staging an invasion twice, and having her subordinate use chemical weaponry the latter time.
A shame, really, she is quite cute, but it only serves to make her sins more striking.

Oh, these are all greatly exaggerated. I don't know why there are such nasty rumours surrounding such a lovely lady.
>Abduction
To my knowledge, all those people she "abducted" were people that wanted to be Gensokyo in the first place, or simply people who wanted new lives, as opposed to their depressing, old ones. Consider Yukari's role here as a fairy godmother fulfilling their wishes.
>Murder
She wouldn't do that, and I am sure she would have mentioned something like it had she really done so.
>Trains
I always figured she uses abandoned trains. There are plenty of old trains sitting in tracks around the world she could have destroyed with no harm to anyone, and surely she has the means to pay for what are essentially pieces of scrap if necessary.
>Spying
Yes, she does like to observe people she's interested in from time to time, but surely she does not invade their privacy. Yukari is a respectful lady, after all, and she knows there are boundaries (I mean, she literally is the youkai of boundaries! She would know!)
>Staging an invasion
It was all a game. Yukari knew beforehand how it was going to end. She is smart, and would have had no problem estimating the Lunarians' forces and capabilities. She knew no one would be harmed, even with the chemical weapons (with which she wanted to spice things up a little, not harm anyone).

Did it cross your mind that Yukari prepared an exquisite meal for their guest that she could not miss, as it was THAT good? Why MUST we think that the girl is getting cooked?
Absolutely deranged and hostile thought towards Yukari here.
Moreover, I am sure she is not meaning to dismiss her concerns about her class and credits. Yukari can easily gap her back into her class in a matter of seconds, that she would not miss it. I am sure this young lady will have a lovely meal with the Yakumos as Yukari explains the situation and then Yukari will see her off. Nothing unusual or evil here.

Yukari doesn't actually bother killing anyone, she's too damn lazy. The bitch has eldritch powers but would rather sic the shrine maiden on whichever poor soul that decides to escape their humanity, or attempt to escape the hellscape that is gensokyo, than do any sort of action herself.

Gensokyo is basically a human farm for all intents and purposes. The human village is like a prison camp, except instead of being subject to just generational forced labour and the like you're relegated to a hamlet with all of the other poor souls around you, forbidden from escaping under threat of death by Rumia or Reimu deciding to end you if you become a youkai.

I have seen multiple people repeat the same "human farm" nonsense in other threads and I just do not get it. There is no reason or benefit whatsoever for youkai to eat humans, and it's not like the human village is unescapable, either. You can choose Marisa's path to become a magician, or, I mean, I think even Reimu would agree to being some sort of mentor if you manage to convince her of something like you will reduce her workload or bring in money for the shrine by helping to reduce incidents, enabling her to be lazy.
More relevant, on the other hand, is that I am sure Yukari would be glad to have a human as a new shikigami, if she won't just become his girlfriend as soon as he shows her a trace of affection. What would Reimu even do about that?

Human farm as in it's a ranch for humans to nonhumans can subsist off of their belief, this is confirmed repeatedly in SoPM and the secretive protection of humans from natural disasters in FS.

NTA, but "Human farm" makes people think too literally. In reality they're living a higher standard of living than contemporary villages of the Edo to Meiji period, and arguably the outside world now and definitely the future as seen in Renko & Maribel's time. The key take away is that they need to exist for Youkai to exist. Superstition and fear promotes the existence of Youkai the same way that faith lets the Gods continue to exist. A good analogy would be that Gods and Youkai are two sides of the same coin minted by Humans.
The current era is the most peaceful it's been according to Akyuu, and an effective balance has been achieved as neither Youkai nor Humans/Gods are at each other's necks. One of Reimu's titles is "Shrine Maiden of Paradise" after all; things are nowhere near as grim as they were in the past, Youkai aren't feared as much as they used to, just enough to keep them relevant. Gensokyo is an isolated snowglobe that accepts everything forgotten and fantastical, and it's in everyone's best interests, even the Humans, that it stays that way.

>In reality they're living a higher standard of living than contemporary villages of the Edo to Meiji period
Bread and circuses. Society is stagnant and, unfortunately, due to ZUN writing, won't ever get any better. It's made abundantly clear in WaHH, FS, and ULiL that the balance that they have is incredibly tenuous.
>Gensokyo is an isolated snowglobe that accepts everything forgotten and fantastical
Except apparently those who choose to become something fantastical through unapproved methods which are not made clear to the populace at large. If running afoul of unspoken laws carries the risk of death, then it's a pretty shitty place to live.
>>44782107
It's not a hard retcon, but the tone of the setting with printworks is drastically darker. We see that Fortune Teller considered Gensokyo bad enough compared to the Outside World that he'd become a youkai to try and escape his station, and in LE we see the villagers generally aren't very happy with their situation, and at least some are aware that they're fear cattle, in effect. Kanako's response when Miko brings up the status quo is also incredibly dismissive of the ethical implications when she compares the Human Village to a Zoo.
The PCB Prologue technically isn't retconned, as we don't know which iteration of the Hakurei Mikos Reimu is, but it can be inferred that the villagers are, while descended from monster hunters, nowhere near as capable as their ancestors.

Another Anon about a month ago compared Touhou to "a comedy about dictatorship, written from the perspective of the dictators," and given the emphasis on subjectivism in ZUN's works as indicated by CoSD and the last few chapters of FS, he clearly considers it just fine, even if anyone that has multiple brain cells can see the human village doesn't have it all that good in practice for all their minor luxuries.

>when it's really just an addition
In PMiSS, in a supposedly public document available to the villagers Akyuu just states the purpose of Gensokyo and admits that she has youkai friends. So anyone who reads PMiSS first assumes that villagers know about this, no guesses, they just know. Then comes FS, and none of this is a thing. How is this not a retcon?

ZUN. I've even heard part of the impetus for him creating AFiEU was in response to someone comparing Reimu to a border patrol agent, but I don't have a source on that so don't quote me on it.
>The best thing you can say about it is that it's peaceful.
Even that description is just putting a positive spin on the fact that it's nearly as stagnant as the Lunar Capital. Nothing is allowed to happen, good or bad, that would disrupt the status quo. Granted this is mostly a byproduct of the hand of the author, as the balance is repeatedly made clear to be very tenuous, and the sage most involved in maintaining it needs immense amounts of plot armor, as we see especially in SSiB. Frankly, given the average IQ appears to be room temperature to the point that Eirin being a genius is considered an Ability, in any realistic scenario Gensokyo would be unlikely to last a year, much less a century.

ZUN's true feelings on Gensokyo are hard to say. I think he's definitely started portraying it as way less positive around Synopsium. But even before that he made it pretty clear that your average outsider had a low survival rate and this was very much by design. Unless he just really hates neets and suicidal people, not entirely impossible, I doubt Gensokyo was ever actually meant to be a 100% paradise.

>I've even heard part of the impetus for him creating AFiEU was in response to someone comparing Reimu to a border patrol agent,
That's giving her way too much credit. She's closer to a cross between the FBI and Vidkun Quisling.

>Even that description is just putting a positive spin on the fact that it's nearly as stagnant as the Lunar Capital.
Not to go full Darwinist, but peace and stagnancy tend to go hand in hand.

>Frankly, given the average IQ appears to be room temperature to the point that Eirin being a genius is considered an Ability, in any realistic scenario Gensokyo would be unlikely to last a year, much less a century.
I think this video probably best describes the state of Gensokyo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI0euMFAWF8

It's why they are so terrified of the human villagers. Basically anybody halfway competent and mature taking over would probably wipe out Gensokyo in a afternoon. The human villagers, despite their seemingly low IQ and questionable behavior at times, are literally leagues above most youkai by at least being halfway mature.

>ZUN's true feelings on Gensokyo are hard to say. [...] I doubt Gensokyo was ever actually meant to be a 100% paradise.
In principle I agree with the latter, but certain interviews very much do make it feel like he genuinely believes it's somehow ideal in at least one way or another.
>Not to go full Darwinist, but peace and stagnancy tend to go hand in hand.
A holdout from earlier stages of evolution, and by no means something that people as a whole are limited to. Really it's more a matter that, even with modern technology, we haven't advanced culturally to properly take advantage of the whole sapience thing.
>Basically anybody halfway competent and mature taking over would probably wipe out Gensokyo in an afternoon.
Sumireko, had she stuck to her guns, likely would've actually managed that, given the Urban Legend Ball Incident. Unfortunately she's a chuuni teenager, and not someone like Yumemi, who in modern canon would be a game-ender for the setting at large.
>The human villagers, despite their seemingly low IQ and questionable behavior at times, are literally leagues above most youkai by at least being halfway mature.
The human villagers actually seem smarter, on average, than the majority of the named characters, when I mentioned room temperature IQ, I meant stuff like Yukari's plan involving using herself as bait against someone who could one-shot her whom she'd already antagonized previously, the entirety of FDS, and the fact that very few people actually saw through Kasen's cover story in spite of it being really, really flimsy.

The youkai being socially immature bit is, ironically, largely due to their own power. They're mostly womanchildren who never had to learn about personal boundaries and respect because they could just strongarm others into getting their way. Someone in another thread put it best in saying that the majority of the residents could use a father figure. I'd even take that a step further and genuinely liken a lot of their problems to what we see from real world daddy issues.

To be honest, it surprises me how many characters have stated goals that, nominally, should directly conflict with the status quo of Gensokyo. Byakuren's desire for coexistence, Hecatia's dislike of authoritarians, Kanako's aim of becoming a god of technological progress in order to regain relevance Outside the Barrier. Really it all ends up boiling down to ZUN being a hack at the end of the day.

I mostly agree. It's just that some of their behavior is... very questionable.

>Byakuren's desire for coexistence, Hecatia's dislike of authoritarians, Kanako's aim of becoming a god of technological progress in order to regain relevance Outside the Barrier.
Byakuren isn't competent enough to actually pull it off, while Kanako's long term goals are more focused on the outside world. As for Hecatia, there really isn't anything anybody could do if she actually wanted something. She mostly doesn't though, even if I could see her teaching the human villagers magic if they asked her.

Rather than competence, I'd say her bigger issue is her kowtowing to the status quo and general unwillingness to rock the boat at all. (pun intended) It's to the point where, last we heard, Murasa was still drowning people, and other members of the Myouren Temple were causing trouble with little interference from Byakuren. That said, from her dream self's dialogue in AoCF, along with her motive for seeking immortality, it can be assumed that this is due to her being exceptionally dependent on others emotionally.
>Kanako's long term goals are more focused on the outside world.
Her motives are undeniably selfish, but that's true of most of the cast and she's still one of the few influential figures to do anything to actually improve quality of life in Gensokyo.
>As for Hecatia, there really isn't anything anybody could do if she actually wanted something.
She seems to take a more "tourist-like" approach to Gensokyo, although considering how hands-off she is with regards to the Ministry of Right and Wrong, it makes one wonder what she does actually do with her time.

Ironically I'd say she's very befitting of a Buddhist mindset. After all, it originated as a way to escape suffering by turning one's back on reality. Byakuren's willful ignorance is very fitting, and while she's one of my favorite characters, I can understand why some people really dislike her.

As I've said in other threads and earlier in this one, her dorkiness would be endearing if not for her complicity in Gensokyo's status quo. Between both her past as Maribel and her visible desperation to be liked and admired, she's likely to make an active attempt to be likable to anyone that actually treats her better than thinly veiled contempt (as her PMiSS article that was no doubt co-authored by her implies.) Yes, twin ponytails do look good on you.
>>44868798
This could challenge the ideas of some anons of Yukari jumping at the first sign of someone liking her.
It could take some time for her to feel confident in that someone showing interest is not just playing a prank on her, which would very much hurt her feelings.
In this scenario, Yukari's love would take more time to develop and manifest, but would be very strong and firm once she is certain that one loves her.

An older woman or not, would either case make her less deserving of love?

I think physical appearance has something to do with it, also, but since Yukari can alter hers as she pleases, this is more secondary.
Indeed, I think it would be the mindset, but what exactly is the mindset of an old and mature woman like Yukari?
In some ways, she also does things that could strike as young or immature: she is rather playful, not to mention lazy. I think it is a nice contrast of two sides, with one being the serious and mature one others see, while the other is softer and more relaxed, which people close to her see.

I go with Yukari being Maribel. In one crossover story I have planned it's the same but the Maribel we know isn't the Maribel who became Yukari.

Oh you like hags now do you?
How much do you love them?
I've done some terrible thing in my life, said some depraved stuff and I stand by it all in the name of 2hags. I've seen 'em all, from Eirin's lonely and unused moonpussy finally bringing her the satisfaction she's been looking for all her life without knowing, Yuuka's psychotic hole be used to tame the beast inside her to become a loving wife and mother, even to Gappy's special gap be used to cure her terminal autism that prevented her from having any real meaningful friends. To say nothing of what I'd do to those cooped up moonhime slits.
I love hags. I *LOVE* hags. I don't care that they're all horrible, awful people who don't seem deserving of love, to me that's most of the appeal. I would bulldoze an orphanage to make one of these ancient ladies smile for a second, I would commit atrocities that would make ted bundy vomit on the spot just to get a quiet giggle from a mature youkai like Yukari. I would wager my own life just to have the slightest chance of charisma breaking one of these permavirgins with a bear hug + kiss on the forehead combo.
You may look at me and say "Gee anonymous, you sure are a weirdo. Don't you know they're eldritch monsters who eat people?" I do. I love them all the more for it. I wouldn't have it any other way. Just thinking about how I am fundamentally powerless to prevent them from doing as they please to me makes me all the more enamoured with them. I walk a fine line between certain horrific death and being an irrelevant loser who will never have Youkai Wife. One misstep, one slip of the tongue and I will burn in agony for eternity as Eiki throws me into the lake of fire for daring to court someone so above my caste. I care not.
If you would not do the same, do you really love them? Or do you just want a mother figure to pay for your NEETdom?
