I shoot with a Hasselblad 500c/m and a Chamonix 45F-2. The two darker photos were on T-Max 400 and the lighter one on Aviphot Pan 200. I do develop at home

The fundamentals of photography are the same whether you're shooting film or digital so, if you want to try it, I'd recommend reading up on the exposure triangle and just going for it. Film and cameras are getting more and more expensive, but you can still pick up something like a Pentax Spotmatic and a macro lens for under a hundred dollars

Dolls are a new hobby to me -- my gf got me into it, and she did the faceup for my doll -- but I've been shooting film for years. That's why my gear is on the higher end, but you can 100% make stunning doll photos with cheap, available cameras and gear. Go for it!!

>>44623339
Thanks for the kind words. I don't know the chemistry well enough to give a great explanation, but the film becomes less sensitive over time and requires longer exposures. The dye couplers in color film deteriorate and color will shift, and background radiation will fog the entire film base with enough time

This photo is digital.

Yeah, it's not too hard. It's a little finicky since it has to be held at 41 degrees C. And the chemistry oxidizes quickly, within a few weeks. But it's extremely cost effective if you do a few rolls with each batch of chemistry.

For film, I prefer black and white. Almost all of my color work is done on digital.

They seem to restock whenever they have time, honestly. They're a pretty small business and if you message them about wanting a certain item it's pretty likely that they'll add it to their next restock due to the interest - they don't seem to really have a good way of gauging what people want other than directly being told via their instagram comments or email, so otherwise they usually make small batches of things

I recently bought a 5" parabox head and well, it was more like 4.7" (they do have a 4.5 category for wigs) and wigs that specified being for 5~6" were far too large. Which is a mistake I wouldn't have made if I had been patient and waited for the head to arrive so I could measure it.

>> No.44671841

somehow I doubt they'll wind up there
personally I'd recommend a proxy, or better yet a forwarder and do the purchase yourself, because good chance these sell out within 24h (before the proxy service can get to it)
this is what I do now, after having missed out on too many limited items
just remember Quarantotto only does cash-on-delivery so whatever service you choose has to be able to handle that
it looks like Manda did get a few of the first run (sold out now of course), so you can stalk there, but again that will only be a small fraction of the bodies sold — they'll go on sale later but sell out quicker
if neither of those work out, stalk YAJ/Manda for months for resales

that said, personally I won't be buying one of this run
I'm not 100% sold on the design yet, and am leaning towards a body with thinner Type C thighs if I get a third AP girl
plus I'm spending money on a lot of other non-necessities right now

Can't speak to spoiler, but it sure can be a money sink. It's not even the doll itself so much as the everything else. I spent $130 on this doll, but when my initial ordering was done the total was over $340, and that doesn't include the cost of MSC. Now that I've bought a few more outfits the total is probably over $500, and I'm still planning to buy a few more things. And that's just this one 1/6 doll. My 1/3 doll was $650 just for her alone.

nayrt but why so high, what were the additional costs?
was it just starting outfits + wig + accessories + proxy/forwarder, or what?
maybe it's just I've never bought a doll in that price range so additional costs were never near 100%, much less over

President's Day weekend in National Harbor, MD. Word of advice: it's a hellcon.
>The hotel it's held in is expensive and rooms sell out within minutes of the hotel block opening
>Super crowded because the entire event takes place in 2 connected buildings (the Gaylord and the con center connected to it)
>Takes anywhere from 20 mins to 2+ hrs to get into dealers/artist alley
>They never have enough volunteers so the con gets fucked every year
>The cherry on top of the cake: hope you get a hotel room so you can use the hotel's snail's pace wifi because the cell service is so weak that it takes 20+ minutes for a text-only Discord message to go through. Iirc AT&T still gets moderately fast service but if you're on any other service, you're fucked.

I'm not going to argue with anyone else's experience, but I've always had a fantastic time every year I've gone. It is definitely one of the more expensive cons to stay at and it is crowded, but that's never detracted from it for me. It's a party con in one of the best cosplay photo locations in the north east. There's always something to do if that's you're thing, even while waiting for dealers hall.

Is it a hellcon? You could call it that. Is it still a great time? To me it is. My biggest issue with it has always been that the artist ally is always packed so you cant look at any booths without being in seven peoples way.

They can be used, I've never heard of them reacting negatively with vinyl, but the bigger issue is that they do not prevent staining and can actually make it worse by sucking dye out of a wig cap since they're more porous than the doll's vinyl would be, and then releasing the dye back into the vinyl. It's okay to use them with undyed/beige wigcap wigs but I would say don't do it with black caps

Every time I'm forced to dis-and-re-assemble a Smart Doll I remember why I never do it. I don't know what plastic Danny uses for his frame parts but the pegs are too thin or not sturdy enough to be shoved into the extremely tight tolerances of the joints, and the joint that connects the spine to the hips has the same problem as a lot of vinyl dolls: it's too short and comes apart too quickly through normal posing, while also being an absolute pain in the ass to reassemble after the fact. A hairdryer is mandatory to do anything to these dolls more advanced than taking off arms, and honestly, it's bad for the vinyl and frame, but I'm seriously considering the advice someone gave to use vaseline on the joints. You run a very, very serious risk of snapping at least one peg if the joint tolerances are a little too tight otherwise, no amount of heat will change that. I'm considering taking a file to the joint pegs, it's that bad. I have... a considerable number of these at this point, and i swear to god. For every problem he fixes (the elbows falling apart,) new ones arise (whatever the fuck he's doing with the new frame.) They have their charms, but they're far more fiddly than Volks, Obitsu, or any other brand.

Thanks dollbros! I saw a couple of posts on DollDreaming and some doll blogs that claimed that it was the silicone wig cap that left marks on the vinyl but based on the photos, it looks more like the silicone is sucking the dye out of the wig cap and transferring it into the vinyl. But that said, SmD hand frames are smaller than DD hand frames, so with a little white tac you can probably get DD hands to stay on a Milk body no problem. (I just tested this with some of mine. You don't need costumes for spooky. You can take photos with spooky atmosphere and lighting, maybe use some props too but even those aren't completely necessary.

Shit sucks anon, I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Getting your shit stolen is the fucking worst, and whoever did it will fuck up and hit the wrong house sooner or later. The fucking door and tires is extra shitty, because tires cost a small fortune and hanging doors is a pain in the ass at the best of times, let alone after your security has been violated. But that said, anon, try to be kind to yourself right now -- you'll never get a doll if you aren't here to buy one, because even Volks' Tenshi no Koromo line doesn't deliver to the afterlife.

They are mine! The girl is a custom by eblktty on instagram, who was sold I believe to gothydolly, and then made her way to me. I got her secondhand, she was originally painted and styled after a League of Legends character, but I took one look at her and went "this is an evil queen." She's wearing Anri's default wig now, but originally I had her with another purple one. (Picrel, it's kind of scuffed because it was midnight and I was literally holding her up to the moon.) I don't have a concrete character for her exactly, but I get the vibe that she's cruel and powerful and hedonistic, possibly to a short-sighted degree.

The doll next to her is honestly one of the jankiest dolls I own, I have literally piecemealed him together from spare Obitsu parts over the last four or so years during the male doll drought and he honestly does not hold together well, but that's what tape is for. I honestly wish I knew who created the head, because I'd love to see what they're up to now! If the queen is a final boss, he would be a miniboss. I get the sense that he's bound to serve her for some reason, but he's resentful about it. It's all very loose, and mostly I just enjoy them for looking cool. (The weird skin texture is because he's basically been mummified in stain prevention tape. That outfit might be one of the worst Volks has ever put out for staining.)

The ambiance is provided by a Spirit Halloween that let me lay in the floor to take photos in front of their cardboard effects tunnel. Go outside with your dolls anons, people don't give a shit.

also finally putting some of my spare parts to use
Obitsu/AP feel are a pain to attach, so I thought I'd pre-attach them to ankles for easier swapping
but it turns out the shin parts require a heat gun to insert the ankle, so I had to get spare shins as well
hands also require a heat gun, unless you're lucky and get some that pop right on (most of mine don't)
they still only turn side to side, unlike DD/MDD wrists — I'll mod those some other day (also need to find tan ones for my Elle)

What heat gun are you using anon?

As an aside, you 100% need a heat gun to work on the new SmD frame. I'm pretty familiar with tearing them down and reassembling them at this point, I've even done a Cortex kit before (got it secondhand, did not give that man money for a DIY doll,) but the tolerances on this new one are almost unreasonably tight. I have never snapped a frame part just trying to slot it into place before.

Milwaukee 2688
it's fine (so far, had it for less than a week), you can definitely go cheaper, I've just already bought into the M18 battery line

They're adorable, I love how the small dolls want to move while the bigger one is holding them back.
What are they? Obitsu 11cm?

Great, though it seems slim and hard to put on with AP thighs... unless it is a longer skirt than I assumed.

Getting stuff ready to take my doll to conventions next year. It’ll be her first outing. Super excited. Any advice for first time convention outings?
