Japanese gacha marketplace is completely saturated and also shrinking. That means new games can't rely on growth of new users and instead have to steal users from already existing games if they want to survive.

But due to sunken cost it's really hard to get people to switch to another game, so couple that with a saturated shrinking market and no wonder every new gacha is flopping. Even 3D gachas with somewhat original gameplay, such as 404 or Snowbreak, don't seem to be doing well. Looks like for your gacha to survive nowadays it needs a big marketing budget and something outstanding that differs it from the competition.

They need to find a way to market their game if they want to expand the playerbase.
The usual method of hiring some vtubers to shill it doesn't seem to be very effectively. You can tell they have no interest in the games they are shilling and most of the time they just finish the tutorial, do a few rolls then close the stream and never touch them again. How are you supposed to attract more people with such halfass showcase?

At this point, it doesn't matter too much when it will EoS, 10 years is a lot in the gacha world. When they announce it, it will feel more like something to celebrate.

It's not just /a/, I've seen people in other places who had a similar opinion. The thing is, while it's possible that the male MC was a factor, I don't think it was as big of a factor as these people claim. It could have still survived with a male MC, the main issue was that the game was launched like a year after the anime, which completely killed their momentum. Had the game launched shortly after, during, or even before the anime, it could have stood a chance even with the male MC. Besides, from the start it was always clear that the anime and the game were alternate stories (hence the Project Parallel codename), so maybe another issue was that the anime audience wasn't told that well.
