I saw Perfume live in NY during their Level 3 tour. It was a small venue compared to their dome shows but the atmosphere was still electric. The music was popping, the girls were charming and the crowd was into the whole thing. The whole thing felt surreal in a good way. I would love to see them again.

You can only compare them to idol groups because idol groups fuction different to typical musicians. Idols work on maintaining momentum. It's why they RARELY ever return from hiatus and when they do, it's always a failure for them.

There is no pathway for a new comer to get into the perfume fandom and the fans that were once here slowly lost intrest as slowed down with their international tours. I know for a fact that Japanese people can literally sleep through perfume single releases and then by a ticket to their live performance. When you are performing at the biggest venue in Tokyo, there are benifts other than being able to seat more people. Perfume don't sing live, they don't have any hand in their art, dress, hair and make up, music videos, choreography or stage performances (aside from being the actual performers of course). This easier to accept when everything is on point, but perfume haven't been on point for 8 years. Who out there that takes music seriously is going to stan perfume. maybe just acknowledge them but not care as much as is needed to support a move into the international market.

I know quite a few people who know of perfume and like their stuff as a whole but think about them at most once a year and don't follow them in any capacity. A person like that would probably go to see perfume but probably wouldn't know they were performing and would miss it. Intrest from people like that doesn't do you much good.

In truth, Perfume have a loyal fan base but their sales are still sinking and that fanbase is still shrinking. Remember the population of Japan is huge. Yet their sales still look the way they do.
They play to about a total of 100,000 people on a tour. With the population of Japan, even with their shrinking fanbase it seems reasonable to accomplish that and while it shows that they're at least sustainable (again which is why I'm saying if both you and they are okay with their popularity falling constantly then there is nothing to say) but it still doesn't prove that they're maintaining their relevance.

Perfume had the cultrual clout to have been better then they are. That's my final word on the topic. They could have been much better. Their team lacked the boldness and creative drive to be anything more than a source of revenue.

They're a product and their product is the left overs from artists that stopped caring about perfume a long time ago.

I'd ask he provided some context to what makes me a narcassist but he won't read this and even if he did he'd just ignore it because he's impotent and not really capable of joining in serious discussion as is often the case with zoomers.

Ironically, the one thing I hate about him is that he got negetive feedback once from me and flipped his shit and migrated to Perfume Discord. The fact that he was a typical ADHD zoomer wasn't much of an issue to me seeing as I teach zoomers from 15 to 3 years old and I'm used to dealing with hyper active short attention span people.

Frackly the issues with the Discord have MOSTLY gone seeing as the pool of fans is so low that they can't be as ban happy. However, the place is still not really about perfume so much as it is about the people there using perfume as a medium to socialize. Which isn't so much of an issue, I just wish people had the balls to just become friends, keep the discord about perfume and then chit chat about some place else instead of making it their main lobby for all their online socialization if you get what I mean.

yes, their live shows are where it all comes together for peak performance.
when listening to their albums, I mostly play them straight; the one exception is moving MnM to the end of level 3. I find that 1mm & party maker blend together just fine, and MnM would've been much better as a hidden/bonus track.
