Hey I’ve gotten a 26 day streak on Duolingo for Japanese and I’m wondering what you guys do for practice, ie what site, how long, how many lessons or however you’d preferred service measure’s lessons?

Honestly unironically thought about buying a wanikani sub.

The fastest and best Japanese learners didnt use anything but Anki and reading/watching things in Japanese

You should not use anything that you have to pay money for. Especially not duo lingo

Also search catalog for djt

>> No.43073540

Using duolingo/paying for courses is for people who are never going to make. Want to learn to understand Japanese? Listen and read Japanese for thousands of hours and review words in anki.

Also /jp/ is not Japan/Japanese general, so these kinds of questions belong in the DJT thread.

duolingo doesn't paywall very many things
on mobile it sorta does and the ads are awful, but you can mod the apk and it acts as if you did pay
t. using it since high school

You can't learn japanese

It wasn't just the greentext itself, also the content.

The point is not that it costs money, the point is that it will never get you anywhere. Go engage with native content as fast early as possible, these kinds of apps are games for normies and boomers that will permanently keep you in beginner territory.

Even if your jap is low beginner level, just go read VNs and/or manga. That's what I did.

it is somewhat of a low priority hobby for me. so no, not yet

>Even if your jap is low beginner level, just go read VNs and/or manga. That's what I did.
there is really no shortage of people laying out what they think others should do
the way I see it the best method is the one you enjoy and can actually commit to. so saying "it worked for me" can only go so far for a different person

Actually the only people who can actually learn Japanese do it rather quickly
If you think you can go slowly and still learn you’re horribly mistaken. Your brain is so good at throwing shit from your memory you don’t actually use
So only people who prioritize it and enjoy Japanese content actually learn japanese

And it’s literally just how much hours you spend in the language (around 2000 hours for basic fluency)

duolingo for 2000 hours will get you at best beginner level Japanese so it’s a waste of time
Spend that time consuming real Japanese

He is still right.
It doesn't matter if it's manga, VN, anime, movies, books, news article or whatever... you NEED to consume JP content at some point if you want to make actual progress.

There is some truth to this, but at the end of the day you're not going to learn to understand a language like Japanese without actually reading and listening for thousands of hours. There are tons of people who grind these kinds of apps or anki for years and are still unable to read basic Japanese.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but may I ask how long you've been using Duolingo because I think you might just be a perfect example of this. Can you watch anime without subs/ read manga etc?

>putting Japanese as low priority
>>>>Duolingo
NGMI unironically. Unless you're constantly immersing yourself, you won't get further than toddler JP that does close to nothing in reality. You need to put everything you consume in Japanese and push for it for hours every day. Not by just doing reps but also doing real productive work where your brain is forced to think like a Japanese and come up with conclusions on its own. You can't get too comfortable on easy shit. This is why most people fail at getting any new skills and think it's impossible to learn anything in general. They never want to go outside their comfort zone and feel like they're stupid or fighting an uphill battle.
