I like that Shiki actually added something to the battles instead of just being a sitting target. He also had that unusual double personality that made him murder random people.

Pretty much everything that happened to him affected who he is, not just his ancestry. The only reason he's not a serious, depressed kid waiting for inevitable death to come is because Aoko saved his sanity and Arihiko didn't let him give up on being a normal person.

Shirou at least has the option of living to an old age without having a body that wants to die every other day, but instead he chooses to try and be abnormal willingly. Shiki can't lead a normal life, but tries to anyway, attempting to bypass anything that's too weird because it'll bring up everything that happened to him already.

So, if you want to talk about the basis, Shirou was near death and couldn't do anything about it, but was saved with relatively little lasting damage. Shiki actually died and was brought back to life with serious, lasting damage to himself that impairs his everyday life. Shirou tries to be abnormal, and achieves this. Shiki tries to be normal, and nobody will leave him the fuck alone. Shirou's friends, after everything is said and done, get along pretty well. Shiki's friends, throughout everything, can't wait to kill each other and possibly him.

Kohaku fucked herself over by greeting Shiki like Hisui would've in her youth. If she had just been somber, Shiki would've immediately recognized her, given her the ribbon, and not have made the mistake of treating them wrongly.

Also, everyone (besides Hisui) wants to "own" Shiki. Arcueid and Ciel have their little cat fights over him, Kohaku and Akiha have heated property disputes, and the three princesses (Princess Idiot, Curry, and Flat Chest) can't help themselves from wanting to kill each other.

At most, Rin only tries to kill him once, Saber only kills you if you seriously piss her off, Sakura just wants to have you inside her forever, Rider punishes really stupid choices, and Illya just can't help herself.

I'd say that Kohaku's own route was what killed her. She was at her best in Hisui's.

There should have been only one route for the maids, Hisui's. Just call it Hisui & Kohaku Route and you have the perfect way to cap the game.

All KT did for her was turn her into a joke character, but really there wasn't anywhere else left to go with her.

As for Ciel, I don't even remember anything about her in KT other than that one curry joke.
