You're missing context, or deliberately ignoring it to stand on high ground. When I messaged her, she was not an idol. A year ago nothing on her Twitter implied she still was going to become an idol. I couldn't know what the reason why she didn't become one years ago was, so I didn't even mention it until she surprisingly became one. My first message was months before this, only to ask about her weird accent in the most polite and positive way. She answered that she's from Okinawa. With an Okinawan name and vague Okinawan appearance, you can question why I even needed to ask, but it could be a fake name and even most old Okinawans don't have such strong accents. For a young girl having it when she tried to become an idol, the easy assumption was that it's a fake "cute accent". Later she still had it, so this was less likely. It could have been that she's from another Ryukyu island. I listened to accents and dialects on Youtube for hours, none of them were identical. So, I asked. That may be "autistic" and could be inappropriate, but she answered my question and asked who I am. What would you have done? Never reply? That would be far more creepy because she could think you're a real dangerous stalker.

You can say the ends don't justify the means and "it turned out OK" can't be used to excuse if it had more chance to turn out not OK, and I'm not going to argue because I agree. But, clearly as soon as I told her how I found her, she always knew the reason was that I followed her the first time she tried to become an idol. If that bothered her, she had no reason to reply. She probably gets much creepier messages. Maybe I should not have asked about the old cursed video, but no one would ever expect its meaning to be what it is. She had no reason to tell me, or she could have said anything. Yeah, now she's an idol so still messaging her is different and I'm not going to anymore unless she does, but if you think any messaging has to be inappropriate is retarded.

Even if your position is stone cold that no one should ever under any circumstances message any idol, fair enough. If you think even girls who try to become idols should be treated as if they already are idols, maybe that's still a sensible position. What you're saying sounds like more than that. It sounds like every girl who ever wanted to become an idol should be treated like she's going to become an idol, and so like she already is an idol. Is that what you think? Then I have this question for you: where do you draw the line? If you only draw a line for yourself, you can draw anything and nobody cares but, you're saying it's an objective line for everyone? Well, at that time a year ago this Okinawan girl publicly had nothing on her Twitter about still wanting to be an idol. She became one soon so the drive was still there but if public information implies no desire to become an idol, why should a girl be treated like an idol? Do you treat literally every girl like an idol? By that standard, you'd have to. You don't know about every girl if she ever wanted to be an idol, and many girls wanted to become idols at one point but most of them never become one. Applying the rule only to Japanese and only to messages on Twitter is inconsistent and hypocritical, so actually following the logic means you could never make any kind of contact with any girl because, by this standard the practical criteria for reasons why she is not to be contacted and forms of disallowed contact become absurdly broad.

If "don't message idols" is about sending lewd or spammy or frivolous messages to currently active idols, then I entirely agree it should not be done. If she isn't a currently active idol when you first message her, that's different. Your rule then would be "don't message girls", which isn't bad as a guideline but should never be a hard rule. I believe that messaging people you don't know shouldn't rely on gender, only the message and reasons. If the message isn't spammy or negative and you think your reason is good enough and can explain if needed, there's nothing wrong with it. For messaging a currently active idol I also can't think of a good enough reason but, in any case this consideration did not apply or even exist for this Okinawan girl because I messaged her before she actually became an idol.

Let me hear your wisdom. If you have messaged with someone for months, even months between messages both ways, and you asked her about something she posted years ago. In response she explains and shares a terrible trauma she's recovering from. You're shocked that something like that could happen, and that she'd tell some random guy. You really think the right thing to do is not respond at all, and cut contact? Are you serious?
